Chapter 2

Midnight's POV

As i walked down the corridor, i realized just how much i missed this. Slender Mansion was home. It just sucks that BEN and I can't walk through the corridors together. When i reached our old bedroom, i sighed. I would never lay curled up beside him. We will never talk about our future because we dont have one together anymore. But i had to see him. Frowning, i stood on my back legs and pawed at the door handle. Soon enough, the door slipped open. I ran in, kicking the door shut behind me. I stared at the figure laying on the bed. Tears were pouring down his face and he was writhing in a dream.
"Midnight... Please stay. Don't leave me..." He muttered. Tears filled my eyes as i realized that even after 6 years, he still loved me. Slowly, i walked forwards and leapt up onto the bed. I layed down beside him and softly began to purr. His sobs began to slow until he stopped crying altogether. I rubbed my head against his lovingly. Then, i began to hum, then sing:

I know I'm different
Than what you expected
But I've been playing a role
It's time that you know the truth

You may not want me anymore
I'm not what you've been looking for
But under these pieces and parts
Is a beautiful heart and it loves you

So meet me at midnight
Find me by moonlight

I've been waiting for so long
To feel like I'm whole

Always told what to believe
Now nothing is quite what it seemed
It's a battle of head versus heart
Can't tell them apart like before

But the truth is concealed in the lies
I've decided I'm done trying to hide
I won't sit back and watch the world burn
When I know it's my turn to fight this war

Fog starts to lift, is my mind playing tricks?

Halfway through the song, BEN opened his eyes. I began to sing louder, desperately hoping he would hear me.
"Midnight?" He muttered softly, his eyes wide. He was staring at me. Tears slipped down my face as i finished the song. Then the shine disappeared out of his eyes.
"Must have imagined it." He whispered, sobs ripping through him. It made my heart shatter. He saw me, just for a moment. But it wasn't enough. I sat right next to his ear.
"I love you. I will always love you BEN." I said loudly. He opened his eyes again.
"I love you too Midnight..." He muttered before falling asleep. I ran out of the room sobbing.

As i darted through the corridors, i heard someone shout. But i didnt stop until i got outside. Link was chasing after me, trying to catch up. I stopped suddenly, before sitting down and sobbing. My sobs were filled with agony and loss. Link sat beside me, holding me on his lap.
"What happened Mum? Please tell me!" He said softly, as he wiped my tears away.
"BEN. He saw me..." I choked out. Once i told him everything, he stood up, his eyes red with anger.
"I told him. I said that you were still here. But he wouldn't listen." He said furiously. As i began to reply, I heard someone call Link's name. We both spun around to see BEN running towards us, well Link.
"We need to talk." He said seriously. Link nodded before glancing at me. I nodded at him as i turned to walk into the trees. This was a talk they had to have alone.

BEN'S POV

"Son, i saw her. I saw your mother." I said slowly. Link looked up and nodded. I gawped at him.
"How did you know?" I asked, as I rubbed my eyes.
"Mum just told me." He said angrily, crossing his arms. I looked around frantically.
"Is she here? Link is she with us?" I said. He looked around before shaking his head.
"No. She left when you came. She wanted to give us privacy." He said. I looked at my son sadly. His blonde hair shone in the sun. He was usually smirking. It was like Midnight's smirk. Which is how I knew it was fake. His eyes where dark purple like hers and they were always sad and haunted. He was scarred. Mentally. And there was nothing i could do to stop his pain. I stood up and opened my arms. He was still only 6. Link looked up and smiled softly, before running into my arms. I held him close, stroking his hair softly.
"I love you Link. I love you so much." I said softly.
"I love you too Dad. I always have and i always will." He whispered. I looked up, blinking away tears, when i saw a flash of orange. I looked up to see her. Midnight was sitting there, smiling at us. She focused on me.
"I love you." She mouthed. I grinned.
"I love you too." I mouthed back. She smiled and began to run forwards. She leapt and landed on my shoulder. I laughed and so did Link. We stayed there for about an hour, in complete silence. We could be a family again.
