The rain had stopped a while ago and except the sound from the t.v, where a random drama played, it was quiet. Jungkook stretched out on the couch, one leg hanging over the armrest while his eyes kept darting toward Taehyung. The other boy sat stiffly on another couch, awkwardly tugging at the hoodie Jungkook had given him earlier.

"You gonna sit there all night like a statue, or should I get you a stick to lean on?" Jungkook asked, a teasing grin tugging at his lips.

Taehyung shot him a glare, his fingers freezing on the drawstring. "Wow, hilarious. You should save your jokes for someone who actually finds them funny."

"Ouch," Jungkook muttered, clutching his chest dramatically. "that one cut deep, tae."

"Good," Taehyung replied, crossing his arms as he leaned back in the chair. The sleeves of the oversized hoodie swallowed his hands, making him look oddly relaxed. Jungkook stared at him for a second too long before he realized he was being obvious.

"What?" Taehyung snapped, catching him in the act.

Jungkook blinked. "Nothing. You just look... cozy."

"Don't make it weird," Taehyung grumbled, shifting uncomfortably.

"You're the one making it weird," Jungkook countered, sitting up straight now. His teasing tone dropped slightly. "You sure you're okay?"

Taehyung's eyes flickered with something unreadable before he shrugged. "I'm fine."

"You don't look fine."

"And you don't look smart, but here we are," Taehyung said, his words sharp but his tone lighter than usual.

Jungkook rolled his eyes, falling back against the couch. "You're impossible."

"Likewise," Taehyung muttered, glancing down as he fidgeted with the hoodie strings.

The room fell into a comfortable silence, the kind that didn't feel awkward or heavy. For once, neither of them felt the need to fill it.

After a while, Taehyung spoke up. "You're not as annoying as I remembered."

Jungkook raised an eyebrow, grinning. "Should I write that down? Frame it, maybe? 'Kim Taehyung said I'm not annoying.'"

"Don't push it," Taehyung said, but the corner of his mouth twitched like he was holding back a smile.

"Too late," Jungkook said, leaning back with a satisfied look. He tilted his head, watching Taehyung again. "You're not so bad yourself, you know."

Taehyung glanced at him, his expression carefully neutral. "Don't make me take it back."

"Wouldn't dream of it," Jungkook replied, shutting his eyes like the conversation was over.

Taehyung stared at him for a moment, something soft flickering in his eyes. He wouldn't admit it out loud, but Jungkook's words stuck with him, warming a part of him he didn't think could be reached.

The night stretched on in silence between them, not uncomfortable but charged with something neither of them dared to name.

Jungkook stretched, his arms going above his head, and Taehyung looked away quickly when his shirt rode up a little. He tugged at his hoodie strings instead, pretending he didn't notice.

"It's late," Jungkook said, dropping his arms and glancing toward the hallway.

Taehyung shrugged. "Yeah."

"There's a guest room," Jungkook said, walking off without waiting for a response.

Taehyung blinked, watching him go before getting up and following him. "I can just sleep on the couch."

"No, you can't," Jungkook said, throwing him a look over his shoulder. "It's too small for you. You'd end up with your legs hanging off."

"What's that supposed to mean?" Taehyung frowned. "You think I'm too tall?"

"Too gangly," Jungkook shot back, grinning.

Taehyung narrowed his eyes. "Gangly? Really?"

"Yeah, like one of those baby giraffes that can't walk straight," Jungkook teased, stopping in front of a door and opening it.

Taehyung rolled his eyes but stepped forward. Inside was a modestly furnished room. A neatly made bed sat against the wall, and a small lamp glowed softly on the nightstand.

"Here," Jungkook said, stepping aside to let Taehyung in.

Taehyung hovered in the doorway, his fingers twitching at his sides. "Thanks," he said quietly.

"Don't mention it," Jungkook said, leaning against the doorframe. "Seriously, don't. I'll never hear the end of it if you do."

Taehyung's lips twitched. "Don't worry, I'm not planning on writing you a thank-you note."

"Good," Jungkook said, though his gaze lingered on Taehyung longer than necessary.

Taehyung shifted, feeling the weight of Jungkook's eyes. "What?"

"Nothing," Jungkook said, his voice softer now. "Just... you're really staying here. In my house."

Taehyung's expression flickered, something vulnerable flashing across his face before he masked it with a shrug. "Don't make it a big deal."

"I'm not," Jungkook said quickly, his tone earnest. "It's just... it's been a while, you know?"

Taehyung nodded, looking past him toward the bed. "Yeah. It has."

For a moment, the air between them thickened, charged with unspoken words neither of them was ready to say.

Jungkook cleared his throat, straightening up. "Alright, then. Sleep well."

"Yeah, you too." Taehyung said, stepping into the room but stopping short of closing the door.

Jungkook hesitated, one hand on the doorframe. "If you need anything..."

"I'll figure it out," Taehyung interrupted, his voice quieter now.

"Right," Jungkook said, his lips twitching like he wanted to say something else but thought better of it. "Goodnight."

"Goodnight," Taehyung said, his voice barely above a whisper.

Jungkook lingered for a second longer before stepping back, pulling the door gently closed.

Inside the room, Taehyung let out a breath he didn't realize he'd been holding. He sat on the edge of the bed, his hands gripping the sheets as his mind raced with everything that had happened.

Outside, Jungkook stood in the hallway, his back against the wall. He rubbed the back of his neck, staring at the closed door like it held all the answers to questions he was too scared to ask.

Neither of them slept easily that night, their thoughts too loud and their hearts beating just a little too fast.
