Trace's POV:
Me, mom, Lydia, and Patrick were all waiting in the lobby for the answer to the dreaded 'dead or alive' question. Mom was pretty much beside herself in tears, muttering over and over again on how she shouldn't have let her do this. Lydia was currently being comforted by an extremely shocked Patrick.
"Trace, I dunno if this means anything to you, but we didn't know either. She never let on how sad she was." Patrick told me. I nodded.
Doctors came in and out, a few calling for the other people in the lobby.
We waited.
Minutes passed on like hours, and finally a doctor came out to see us. He looked almost...happy? A good sign.
"Are you the Everlasting family?" He asked, pointing to me and mom. We nodded. He almost smiled.
"Your daughter is alive." He said. Relief spread through me, and we all let out cries of joy and relief.
"Unfortunately-" He said, interrupting our happiness. We all looked at him.
"Unfortunately she's in a coma. Whether she'll come out of it, we don't know." He said.
The weight that was pressing so hard down on my shoulders, that had been lifted off just seconds ago, now came back.
"So....she's not fully...alive." I said. He looked over at me with a pained expression.
"It's hard to say. She's lost a lot of blood but with your generous donations over the past few hours, her body is working properly. Well, not properly enough." He said.
"Can we see her?" Lydia interrupted. He looked kindly at her.
"Family first." He said. She nodded.
Mom got up and walked quickly towards the door. Patrick clamped a hand on my shoulder.
"Hey, she's alive. That's the best answer we could hope for." He said. I nodded.

When mom came out, she had tears in her eyes but she was so full of relief it could be passed off for happiness. I went in next, and what I saw broke my heart a second time.
The door closed behind me as I sat down in a chair next to her bed, taking her hand.
"Lily I'm so so so sorry." I said quietly, staring down at her.
Her skin wasn't cold, but she wasn't as warm as she usually was. Her face was pale and her eyes were closed. Her chest rose steadily up and down. She could be just sleeping, but I knew better. Lily was a very light sleeper, so she usually didn't sleep this deeply.
I leaned down and kissed her forehead, making a promise to her.
"I promise I won't leave this hospital until you do. It's you and me together sis. And if you die, i'll join you." I said. I meant it. Her eyelids fluttered and my heart did a leap, but she stayed asleep. Probably just a side-affect of being in a coma.

I let Lydia and Patrick have their turns, but once they were done, I was back in.
When it came for us to go home, I stayed put.
"No. I'm staying." I said. The doctor gave me a tired look, as if he'd gone through this before.
"Son, this isn't a soap opera." he said tiredly. I wanted to slap someone.
"How would you like it if your twin sister was in a freaking coma!! Wouldn't you stay!?!?" I said angrily. He sighed.
"Alright. But cause any trouble for us once, and you're out." He said. I nodded.
***
It was late enough already, I should be getting sleep, but I couldn't help it. What if she were to wake up and I wasn't there?
I looked over at her and saw her faintly smiling in her sleep. I couldn't help but smile too.
"I hope you're happy, wherever you are. But please, come back to me." I said.
