Clove's eyes narrowed as Cato angrily slammed his recently aquired sword to the ground.
"They got away?" He hissed slightly and Clove couldnt help but wince."Y-Yes, they did, b-but Ma-arvel, h-he got the y-younger girl." Clove stuttered, Cato was terrifying when angry. Cato scrunched up his nose and kicked the rock closest, something cracked in his foot but he seemed unfazed, lost in his anger. Clove didnt know why she loved him, sure, he was one of the best looking guys back home, but he was renown for his uncontrollable anger issues. Clove had always been matriarchal but beside Cato she had felt small, a feeling she barely felt. To her suprise it was also a feeling she enjoyed. Throughly. Though being by his side meant she was labelled 'Reprehensible' and 'Blameworthy' she paid no heed to what others thought. She loved him no matter what.
A rustling to her left quickly pulled her to alert, she had a knife in both hands before anyone else could react. Clove stalked over to the bushed and to her suprise found the curled up figure of Peeta Mellark. She watched as he made a small tweet like melody up towards the right, she scanned the treetops till she spotted her. Katniss Everdeen. Bow in her hands and arrow aimed at an oblivious Cato. Clove threw one of her knifes at Peeta causing him to yelp out and gain Cato's attention, but it was too late, the arrow had left the bow, so Clove did the only thing she could. Protect the one she loved.
Without thinking twice, Clove pushed Cato aside, taking the arrow full on through her chest. Sinking to the ground she watched as Cato grabbed the other knife from her hand and threw it at Katniss forcefully, and Clove let out a smile through her pain as Katniss slowly died before her eyes. She heard retreating footsteps from Peeta. A cannon. And then Cato, sat beside her.
"Clove. D-dont leave me." Cato managed and Clove saw something she had never seen. Small tears forming in Cato's eyes.
"I- love you." Clove croaked, and the last words she heard was "I love you too, Clove."
