Beginning on January 9 in Vadodara, Devdutt Padikkal, Prasidh Krishna, and Abhimanyu Easwaran will all play for their respective teams in the 2024–25 Vijay Hazare Trophy knockout stage. If Tamil Nadu advances to the semi-finals, Washington Sundar might be available, but KL Rahul has asked for a break.

Abhimanyu was given permission to depart one day early, but Padikkal and Prasidh will depart from Sydney on Wednesday along with the majority of the Indian group. The Cricket Association of Bengal then scheduled him on an earlier flight so that he could join the state team in Vadodara following stops in Ahmedabad and Singapore.

In preparation for their pre-quarterfinal matchup with Haryana, Abhimanyu will workout with the rest of the Bengal team on Wednesday. The other player from Bengal in the India team, Akash Deep, will instead go to the Centre of Excellence (formerly the National Cricket Academy) in Bengaluru after being sidelined due to a back ailment that prevented him from playing in the final Test match in Australia.

Prior to their quarterfinal matchup with Baroda the following day, Prasidh and Padikkal are anticipated to join the Karnataka team around January 10. Padikkal was added to the Test squad after Rohit Sharma's delayed arrival due to the birth of his kid. Originally, he was merely a member of the India A squad, which was on a shadow tour before the Border-Gavaskar series. Despite playing in India's 295-run victory in Perth, Padikkal was not selected for any of the other Test matches.

In contrast, Prasidh played his first Test match in a year at the most recent one in Sydney. He took out Steven Smith in both innings as part of his final six-wicket total for the match. Prasidh and Padikkal had both performed well in India A's four-day matches before the Test series.

After sitting out all five Test matches in Australia, Abhimanyu's match against Haryana will be his first official appearance in two months. Scores of 7, 12, 0, and 17 in four innings for India A in Australia hurt his hopes of making his Test debut, even though he was in the running to be a backup opener who might have been in the running to play in Perth in Rohit is missing.

However, he had been in outstanding form before the India A trip, scoring four first-class hundreds in four games during the Duleep Trophy, which opened the season, and the Ranji Trophy that followed.

Head coach Gautam Gambhir had expressed his wish to see Test players make themselves available to play domestic cricket whenever feasible following India's 3-1 series loss in Australia, which also meant giving up the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after a decade.

He would stated, "I would always like everyone to play domestic cricket," "That is the kind of significance that domestic cricket requires. Not just one game. Everyone should play domestic cricket if they are able to and are dedicated to playing red ball cricket. As easy as possible. You will never be able to acquire the players you want if domestic cricket is not given priority.
