madeline's pov

nola and hugo left after dinner to head back to his place while caleb and i decided to wait for an uber outside the restaurant.

i had my arm wrapped around his, leaning my head on his shoulder.
"so are you okay, you're not dying are you?" he asked all of a sudden which confused me. "your period is way too early, i know that's not a good thing"

"oh" i said silenced.
"you know you can tell me, i just want to know you're okay"
"caleb, this is serious" i decided to just go for it.

"i was pregnant" he stopped holding my hand and looked at me accusatory.
"you got me pregnant, but the other day i had a miscarriage" how else was i supposed to say it.

"miscarriage? sure. i bet you aborted it because you didn't want the responsibility" he shook his head. "you know i did that to you for us. to keep us together"

"what"

"yeah i hoped you got pregnant so that we would stay together. to finally have my peace in knowing you were stuck with me. but you ruined that too" i couldn't believe him right now.
"you know that a fetus is a living thing right, you just committed murder"

i physically couldn't say anything.

i threw up in the bush outside the restaurant. "okay attention seeker, you just want me to feel bad for you, you did this to yourself. you're sabotaging our relationship. for what. we used to be so perfect. what happened to us?" he gripped the top of my arm pulling me back to my feet.

"what happened? caleb what happened is you started getting me drunk and taking advantage of me, you don't let me have any of OUR guy friends on social media, we only hang out if you want to have sex after" i listed off suddenly becoming aware of the people around us. i made eye contact with scarlett then lizzie as they were standing just outside the restaurant with the rest of their friends.

i need to leave.

when the uber came i got in leaving caleb there. and told the guy to take me home.
on the way home i request sick leave for work, which gives me 3 days to disappear.

i look in the app and see my families vacation home currently isn't in use so i book it under my current name so they don't get the notification its me. it's about 2 hours or so away so i needed to get packing if i wanted to make the most of it.

once im at home my phone was getting numerous calls from scarlett and some texts form caleb.

once you've calmed down. we need to talk it out.

i left him on opened and started packing. it was already 9pm and i would like to be there before midnight.

there was a knock on my door and i opened it to see violet.
"scarlett sent me" she said and i walked away letting her enter my apartment. "where are you going?" she asked seeing the bag i was packing in my room.

"a place" i told her. i couldn't be around caleb right now. like anywhere close to him.

"what happened?" she asked but i stayed quiet grabbing more clothes. she grabbed the bag stopping me from packing more stuff. "you can't run away from your problems. is this about caleb?"

"i appreciate the concern. seriously. but i just need a break. this last week has been hell and i'll be back by monday. tell scarlett im going to a friends house. and i'll tell you that im going up the coast to spend a little time alone, away from the city. you have my location anyway  i would say you can come cause you're like the only person i want to be around anymore but i know you can't just pick up and leave like i can "

she looked at me like she was trying to figure me out again. why does she have such an obvious thinking face. it's kind of cute.

"please, call me if you need anything. i trust you will be safe. and i understand you need a break" she responded and i nodded stopping packing to breathe.

i got changed out of my dinner wear into a pair of trackies and a hoodie i was about to sit in my airconed car for a while.
"woah, what happened to your arm" she said getting up from the bed and looking at my arm. it was all red from where he grabbed me. he doesn't realise how strong he is sometimes.

"i must've knocked it" i said putting the hoodie on. she just brought me into her embrace. i almost started crying but stopped myself. i hugged her back just as tightly and she stands up fully lifting my feet slightly off the floor.

"you know im here for you for anything, i care about you madz"
"i know V, i love you and i seriously think you're one of my best friends" i said resting my forehead against hers. "even if we've only known eachother for a bit"

"be safe okay?" she warns me and i nodded. i was all packed up and i got the notification that the holiday house was ready.

my parents always get it cleaned as soon as the last person leaves so it's always ready if no one's there. it just has to be approved. and of course my workaholic parents already have done just that.

i wanted to go somewhere that feels like home but isn't. this house is where i spent my holidays growing up. my parents were working a lot so my cousins and i would come up here with my grandparents. it was theirs originally before being passed down to my dad.

violet followed me downstairs and once we got to my car i said goodbye.
she had parked in the visitors section so she started walking away.

i got a call again from scarlett once i started driving so i picked it up.
"im okay, if that's what you're wondering. violet just left"

"okay good, i didn't know if you would let her in or not"
"it's violet of course i would" she laughed and agreed.

she asked what happened outside the restaurant and i said it was nothing. then i had to go through a series of tunnels so i had to say goodbye.

i had a long drive ahead of me.
