The Butterfly Inn was exactly how the boys pictured it would be when they arrived on the Friday. The manager had phoned them up the day before to ask if they could come a couple of hours earlier, so they could set up and play a few songs before everyone else arrived.
"This place is groovy!" Davy remarked, as the manager, a man in his late twenties called Bill, showed them around.
Peter commented on how he liked all the posters up on the wall of the different bands. He hinted that maybe a poster of The Monkees could possibly be put up there sometime.
Bill chuckled. He slapped Peter's back.
"You get a good response tonight, then I might consider it!"
Bill showed the boys over to the stage and told them to maybe play a couple of songs for him to hear. The lads were up for this and decided to play Daydream Believer. Bill sat at the front table, nodding and tapping his feet to the song. When the boys finished, Bill jumped up and clapped.
"You guys are great! I'm sure the kids are going to dig you all when they arrive later. I think the girl especially!"
"Guess we'll have to keep an eye on Davy then!" joked Mike.
Davy pulled a face at Mike.
"How about you guys go get yourselves a drink from the bar! I need to go sort out some stuff!" Bill suggested.
"Well, guys," said Mike, a few moments later as they sat at a table sipping at their drinks. "I have a feeling we are going to do well here!"
Micky gave an excited whoop, which meant waving his hand in the air, knocking over his drink!
"Micky!" laughed Peter.
"Sorry!" Micky said. "I had better clean this up before Bill gets back! Hang on while I go look for some paper towels!"
There was nobody behind the bar, so Micky climbed over and took a look under the shelves and inside a cupboard for something to dry the mess up.
"Can I help you?"
Micky looked up to see a young girl, possibly a waitress, standing above him, looking rather confused as to why he was there.
"Hi! Yes!" Micky chuckled, standing up and smiling at her. "I spilt my drink and was looking for something to clean it up!"
The girl grinned and pulled out a tea towel she'd had tucked in her belt hoop. She handed it to Micky.
"I gather you and those guys are the band that Bill was just raving about?"
"We are!" Micky said. "We are The Monkees!"
"Cool!" The girl said. "Well, I look forward to hearing you guys tonight!"
