The night was a big success! As soon as Micky and the boys got on stage and started singing, people were up on the dance floor, and those who sat
and watched were bopping their heads and clapping along to the songs.Micky couldn't help looking out in the crowd for the waitress he had spoken to earlier in the evening. The bar had been dimly lit, so he hadn't gotten a good look at her, but he had hoped to possibly see her at some point during the evening.
When the boys had finished, Bill beckoned for them to come over to him.
"You guys were just brilliant!" He cried, when they joined him. "I definitely want you back here tomorrow night!"
The four boys pretended to get all shy and flattered in the goofy way that they did. Bill smiled and pulled an envelope out off his jacket pocket. He handed it to Mike.
Mike tore open the envelope and pulled out a cheque. His eyes, and the eyes of his three friends, nearly popped out when they saw what they had earned that night!
"And that is just for tonight!" Bill winked at them. "Go get yourselves a drink, it's on the house!"
The Monkees couldn't stop thanking Bill, even as he walked away to talk to some of the customers. Mike quickly tucked the cheque inside his jacket pocket.
"Gentlemen," he said, grinning at his friends. "We did good!"
The four boys went over to the bar. Some girls came over and started telling the boys how amazing they thought the band was, and could they get autographs. As it was with every gig, Davy soon became the popular one with the girls. Mike, Peter and Micky grinned at each other and happily enjoyed their drinks.
A girl appeared at the bar and Micky sat up, wondering if it was the same girl he'd met before. Sadly, she wasn't.
"You guys were very good!" she told them, re-filling their glasses.
"Thank you!" said Peter.
"Hey, urm, is there another girl who works here with you?" Micky asked.
The waitress raised her eyebrow at him.
"Only, I meant to thank her for helping me out before!" Micky said, suddenly wishing he'd kept his mouth shut!
"If you mean Ashley, you won't find her here tonight!" The waitress said.
"Ashley?" Micky said. He looked down at his glass. "Pretty name!" He thought.
