Disorientation had suddenly swept over my body and mind, and a thousand shades of green started to swim in my eyes, forcing them to close. I suddenly felt very dizzy, but I didn't know why. My hands unfolded from my lap and I grabbed the ground on either side of me to steady myself, staring intently into the blackness of my eyelids. I began breathing deeply, and counted to ten. It was silly, I realised. Childish and idiotic even, but I counted anyway, and when my breathing had steadied, I folded my arms again across my lap.

It was a very bright, Saturday morning. A cloud swam across the blue sky as I tried to give shape to it. For a moment I imagined that I saw something, a whale even, but the form shortly faded in my mind and I realised it had purely been my imagination. I turned my head, surveying the area. A few tables, a fountain, and a few people sitting and talking a few metres from me in nearly every direction. Sighing, I looked down the stairs I sat on. Waves of trees and plants lined the wide stairs which I sat on and continued at the bottom where the stairs met the flat. I sat there thinking whilst watching the cars and buses drive past.

He was coming. I thought to myself. He is definitely coming. And yet, something deep inside me, a bestial force told me that he had stood me up. The creature was concealed in darkness. It wrapped around me, strangling me like a boa constrictor, pressing its mouth close to my ear and whispering that he wasn't coming, that he never intended too. I felt the beast seize around me and I tried to throw it off. Childish, again, yet I still imagined myself, standing tall and noble. I failed, though, and the fear continued to chew inside my gut, my hands clasping tighter around me knees as I waited. Waited. Waited. And began to fell he really wasn't coming...
