The ice cream at Bill's always taste better the first day of summer. My best friend Amber Shilts and I have been best friends since 1st grade. We practically live together now. Her brother Teddy and my brother Nick were both in 3rd grade, so when I go over to Amber's house Teddy usually goals over to my house to play with Nick.
Amber and I are total opposites. I think that's why we are such good friends. She loves soccer, I love basketball. She loves watching movies, I love reading. She wants to own a business, I want to be a psychologist. Even our favorite ice cream flavored are different. We only have a few things in common. We both LOVE the rain. Whenever it rains, we both meet in the middle of our houses and dance and laugh in the rain for hours.
After offering my the rest of her ice cream, Amber shrugged and tossed it in the trash.
"You know my birthday is coming up... And my mom said that we were going to California!"
"That's awesome, Amber!" I said
"And guess what the best part is?!?!" She said with the biggest grin on her face.
"What?" I said
"My mom said that Ty guys could come with!!!" She said loud enough that everyone in Bill's could hear her.
"Omg! Are you serous Amber?" I said looking at the boys with there mouths wide open.
"Yup! My mom is talking to your mom right now. Better start packing, we leave in a week!" She said with the same mysterious smile on her face, the same smile I saw the first day she walked into Mrs. Greens 1st grade classroom. She gave me this glare, this glare that I could look at all day. Amber was the most beautiful girl I have ever seen. And she didn't even know she was beautiful. She was the kind of girl that you want to hang out with all day. And I'm so lucky to be able to call her my best friend.
We just sat there, and looked at each other, for a long time.
The boys looked at each other.
"Can we go the the park?" Nick said.
Amber and I looked at each other, then Amber shrugged her shoulders and said "sure"
Friends come and go,
but best friends are forever.
