When Ashley arrived at The Butterfly Inn the next day she could tell from Bill's face that last night had been a success. She also spotted a poster of The Monkees was now pinned up above the Jukebox. She walked over to the bar, where Mary was sitting.
Mary popped her gum at Ashley.
"So one of the boys from the band was asking of you last night!" Mary said, as Ashley stuffed her bag and coat in a cupboard under the bar.
"Really?" Ashley said, though she didn't sound interested. Boys were always asking of her and it could get pretty tiring.
"Yeah," Mary popped her gum again. "He wasn't much of a looker, though. Not anything like the British hottie that was with him!"
Ashley hid the knowing smirk on her face. Mary was always chatting up the boys, while Ashley just hung out in the background, something she had done since she was a little girl. However, it was when she tried to keep out the way that people would notice her, and most of them (much to Mary's annoyance) were boys!
Behind the stage, Ashley sat at the make up desk and stared at her reflection. She'd had another bad night, and the bags under her eyes were not a pretty sight. Getting out the foundation that was recommended Ashley got to work trying to make herself look more awake and human.
As she rubbed the foundation on her face, she thought back to what Mary said about how this guy wasn't much to look at! He seemed quite a good looking guy from what Ashley saw of him. His cheeky smile reminded her of someone, but she couldn't put her finger on who it was that he reminded her off! Shrugging her shoulders, Ashley put the foundation away and began on the eye makeup.
When The Monkees arrived later that evening, they were told to drive the car round the back.
"The girls are back!" The guy who stood outside the bar told Mike and the boys, with a wink. "Bill suggested you drive round the back and stay backstage tonight!"
Mike and his friends laughed. They were in high spirits that evening. They had another gig, and were getting good money for it. And, they were getting new fans!
Bill had told the boys that they must stay on after their part, as he had another singer going on straight after.
"She's fantastic! You boys are going to love her!"
"Sounds good to me!" said Davy. "Is she new?"
"Oh, she has done this type of stuff before," Bill told Davy. "But, she's recently got more noticeable by some of my mates who work at other bars, so I asked her if she would like to sing here tonight! She was perfectly happy to go on after you!"
Micky sat on the sofa, tapping his drumsticks on the coffee table. They had quarter of an hour before they were to go on stage. Mike, Peter and Davy had gone to grab a few bottles of water for later.
The door opened and Micky turned, expecting it to be his friends, only to see it was the girl he'd met yesterday.
