Charlie Dean, an English offspinner, has been signed by Royal Challengers Bengaluru to replace Sophie Molineux, who is injured, for the forthcoming Women's Premier League season, the team announced on Thursday, January 16.
Due to a knee injury, Molineux, who had some outstanding performances in 2024, particularly in franchise cricket, will not be playing in the WPL. In WPL 2024, the bowling all-rounder finished as the third-highest wicket-taker in the league with 12 wickets in 10 games. More significantly, she led the Melbourne Renegades to victory in the Women's Big Bash, with 16 wickets in seven games.
In contrast, Dean has already played in 36Twenty20 Internationals for England and has taken 46 wickets at an economy rateof 6.91. The offspinner took seven wickets in ten games while playing for theLondon Spirit squad that won the Women's Hundred last year. After taking sevenwickets in three ODIs during the series against South Africa, which ended lastmonth, she was recently voted the Player of the Series.
