Next day, Roppongi..
Second Person's POV
The morning air in Hinokicho Park felt crisp. Ran sat stiffly on the bench, his shoulders hunched as his fingers twisted together in restless knots. You watched as his thumb hovered near his lips, a familiar gesture of self-soothing that he barely seemed to notice.
Before he could give in to the urge to bite, you reached out and took his hands in yours. His movements stilled instantly at your touch.
"Hey." Your thumbs brushed over the back of his hands in slow, calming strokes. "You'll be fine."
He turned to you, his violet eyes clouded with unease, searching yours for reassurance. He swallowed hard, his gaze dropping back to your joined hands.
"I don't know. They are taking a while.. What if... what if they don't want to see me?"
You tightened your grip a bit. "They'll want to see you. You're still family to them, Ran."
His lips pressed into a thin line, his expression faltering as if he couldn't quite believe you. He didn't reply, but the way his hands remained in yours, told you enough. You gave his hands one last reassuring squeeze as you noticed a familiar group approaching in the distance.
"They're here," you announced, nodding toward the path.
Ran stiffened but didn't pull away. His breath hitched as he spotted Rindou, Rui, and Wisteria walking toward you. You stayed close, keeping your hand in his.
Wisteria approached with a warm smile, her expression doing little to mask the exhaustion behind it. "Sorry we're late," she chuckled, trying to ease the tension hanging in the air. "Iris misplaced the car key, and we had to turn the whole house upside down looking for it. Only to find it in her pocket the entire time."
Despite her attempt at humor, the tension between them was undeniable. Her gaze shifted to you, and her smile softened. "Thank you for suggesting this, sweetheart," she thanked sincerely before turning her attention to Ran.
Ran met his mother's eyes timidly, his throat bobbing. "Mama.."
Wisteria's smile wavered, replaced with a flicker of sadness, but she nodded gently. "Ran.. Finally, I can see you again."
Ran's eyes darted quickly to Rindou, standing beside their mother. His younger brother's gaze fixed on the ground, refusing to meet Ran's.
Then his eyes found Rui, half-hidden behind Rindou. She clung to her older brother's arm, her anxious eyes peeked out at Ran. Her uneasiness was evident, etched into her expression, but so was a flicker of curiosity.
The fear in her eyes felt like a knife twisting in his chest.
"Rin, Y/n, I need you both to step away for a moment. I want some time alone with Rui and Ran." Wisteria suddenly remarked, much to your shock.
