A Time of Four

Before you can understand my tale, there are some things you need to know. There was a time when there lived four races, the changeling, the Blood-lusters, the warlocks, and the humans. They lived with each other, loved each other, intermarried and bore offspring amongst the races, howeve , the humans were the most beautiful of all creatures, without deformity.

But this beauty came with a price; for the humans were the weakest. They were prey to the bloodlusters, the vampires, a clan who were all humans, but were cursed by a powerful warlock with a broken heart and a bitter soul. Faster and stronger than humans, but monstrous beasts, creatures of horror, drinkers of blood.

The changelings were creatures who could shift into animals. They were noble-hearted and wild, like their animal brethren. Living in seclusion, in one with nature, in one with family -Pack

The warlocks, the mages, were magical creatures. There were water-users, fire-users, spirit-soothers and earth-users.

So they lived together in strained harmony, under a body of governance called the Order, four men and women of power from their various races, who judged and ruled all peoples. But the vampires felt that since they were the most powerful creatures, they should rule over all men and feed on humans , without any hindrances, because the weaklings were obviously created as their meal. The rest of the races did not agree to this.

The vampires declared war on all creatures, the fragile humans with their innovative thinking, the passionate changelings with their strong loyalties, and the powerful warlocks with their high-handed magic. This led to a very long war, called The Dark Years, when humans were caught in the middle of a war that they were not strong enough to fight or defend themselves. This war lasted a hundred years. The vampires were finally vanquished, and their little remnants were exiled to The Blood Isle, placed under a curse that bound them to the moon, never to see the sun again. Enranged, the vampires became forever enemies of the humans, preying on them to elongate their life span and make them more powerful. They went into seclusion and devised plans to make themselves even more powerful to finally eliminate their counterparts, and after years and years of conniving and plotting, a solution powerful enough to give them the needed powers was found. But not all these vampires agreed with this idea, maybe these ones had their consciences intact, who knows? They escaped the Isle of Blood and revealed to the warlocks the plans of their brethren...
