Chapter 6
The journey was long and hard. We past through forests with beastly creatures and succeeded in defeating them all, leaving with several cuts and bruises. Crossing bridges that were worn out over the years, Days turning into nights and nights turning to day, the sun has set 8 times since the start of our journey to find Judith. We’ve been slowly adapting to the wilderness. Artemis has been generous in providing hunt, and Demetrius supplied many different edible plants. Hunger wasn’t at all a threat and neither was thirst.
It seems that Caspian and I misjudged how large this island is and all its forests and mountains.
Artemis and Athena’s training over the years worked to my advantage; especially their survival games where they put me in the middle of nowhere, forests or deserts, and they always let Caspian tag along which was a bonus. If I was ever stranded on an island I’d always want Caspian to be stranded with me, or a hot girl, either or is fine.
We’ve walked an estimated total of 39km. The only rests we take is for the horses and to set camp for the night.
After all that hard work of walking and fighting creatures we hear about in other warriors tales, we finally made it to an average size wooden cabin. It being the only house we’ve seen in days we are assuming that this is where Judith lives.
Heaps of smoke rises from the chimney, a stack of wood rested on the side of the house; I can hear the flow of a small stream that is probably behind the house. Caspian and I shared a look, he seems quite relieved that we made it, and probably hopeful we can have a nice long break.
“Do you think he’s here?” Caspian asked.
“He must be. It’s the only house we’ve seen in miles,” I groaned in my mind about how it sounds more like I’m trying to reassure myself then him.
“Well there’s only one way to find out,” he sighed and walked forward to knock on the wooden door.
After three light taps of his knuckle we waited patiently for someone to answer. Caspian raised his fist to knock again when no one came; he almost hit a man in the face. His eyes widened as the man stood there staring at Caspian’s fist that was merely inches away from his face. I chuckled at his startle look, but quickly covered it when the man whipped his eyes to me.
I surveyed the guy in front of me. He appears to be in his late twenties or early thirties. His brown eyes held little emotion, the only noticeable one is annoyance. Black waves of hair cupped his scowling face, no strands passing the beginning of his neck. He notices that he’s muscular from his tanned arms.
My observation is interrupted by someone clearing their throat; I look back up at the stranger. Shit was I trust checking out a guy, no, I was sizing him up. Always study a person before conversing with them, especially an enemy; you should try to depict their strengths, weaknesses, and nature. I understand he’s not an enemy but you never know when you will have to fight them, you should always be prepared.
“Are you Judith,” I asked, my voice going deeper like it always does when I’m trying to intimidate someone.
His scowl turned into a small smirk, “I’m guessing your Salantro.” He indicated.
I nodded in answer.
“My name is Judith,” he stated.
“Yeah we kind of figured that,” I retorted. Caspian snorted at my rude comment and Judith’ smirk switched back to a scowl.
“So the son of Zeus is a joker, he must be so proud,” sarcasm leaked from his mouth like venom and I smirked.
“Well he did trust me to retrieve the Olympian sword.” I bragged.
