Chapter 7

I awoke to the soft chirping of the birds, and the warm rays of light caressing my skin and blinding my closed eyes.

I raised myself into a sitting position and stretched.

I slid my eye lids open and saw Caspian softly snoring. I decided not to wake him up and walked to the kitchen. Hopefully Judith’s hospitality includes feeding us too.

Judith is already sating in the kitchen eating breakfast silently. He glanced up from his meal to watch me walk in. He nodded at me in acknowledgement, and pointed to two plates of fish, bread and grapes. I poured myself a cup of tea and grabbed a plate. A took the seat across from him and started munching on the juicy grapes.

Not everyone has the luxury to eat them, usually their only served in kingdoms or to noble families.

Curious of how he managed to get his hands on such a tasteful fruit, I voiced my question, “How did you get grapes?”

“There’s grape vines in the back.” He mumbled.

Now that I think about it I did notice a couple fruits and vegetables growing back there. I guess he needs to, living all the way out here alone.

We lifted our heads up to the hall when we hear a loud yawn. Caspian enters with a tired smile.

“Morning,”

“Morning,” Judith and I said in unison.

Caspian had no trouble getting his breakfast and taking the seat beside me.

“So what’s the plan, when are we heading out?” he questioned.

“After lunch I guess. We’ll take the shortcut to the village, stock up on supplies and take the boat toAthens,” I listed.

“Athens? That’s a 6 mile boat ride from here, plus all the storms, after awhile it’ll be difficult to navigate.” Judith states.

“Then what do you suggest we do?” I asked slightly annoyed of his smartass attitude.

“Well first off, I suggest I come with being that you need to start gathering and I have no need to stay here anymore. Second off, I’m an amazing navigator. Third off, you two are idiots,” I glared at that last comment and was a bout to interrupt when he interrupted me interrupting him, “Fourth, I have a ship; it’s small but better than a boat.” He finished.

I guess he’s got a point there, I don’t like him but I need to start taking this more seriously. I’m not dumb, but I guess I don’t think things through that much.

Having Judith with us will give us a better fighting advantage and plus if he’s in charge of sailing the ship then I don’t have to do it…

Caspian and I locked eyes and had a silent agreement.

“Yeah, you should come with us,” I decided, “But just know that I’m the one in charge, you may think I’m an idiot but I’ve been training for years. I- no, we will collect all three pieces and stop Hades. But my father chose me for this, so I’m going to be the one to lead us into victory; and of course no man, no matter how strong they are, can do it alone. So you have to promise you won’t fight me, or beside me but with me.” I stated, making sure to get the point across that I am not be pushed around.

Judith smiled and held out his hand, “I think I can deal with you being leader. I will use my skills where necessary and fight alongside you and Caspian in this war, no matter what, even if I die in the process.”

I grinned at his reply and firmly shook his hand.

Well Zeus, I’ve got a long way to go, but at least I have reliable companions. This is certainly going to be a long couple of months. I thought as we all finished our breakfast and started preparing our things.

After packing our bags and feeding the horses we settled down in the kitchen to eat our last meal in a safe cozy home for a while.

“What can you do on the battlefield?” Caspian asked Judith after swallowing a piece of lamb.

“I mastered the bow and arrow, and I’m pretty good with knifes. I have incredible accuracy,” he replied.

“That’s perfect!” Caspian shouted, “me and Salantro are close range fighters, having a long distance fighter will benefit us during battles,” he stated.

I nodded. I’m good with a bow and arrow, but I’ve always been better at close range fighting.

Random conversation continued like this throughout lunch. We had unfortunately had to leave sometime though. No we’re climbing onto our horses and riding down the trail to the village.

Once we got to the village, we went straight to the boating docks. We already stocked up at Judith’s because he pretty much has everything useful for the journey; foods, water, spare clothing and weapons.

Judith led us to his ship, it wasn’t gigantic but it has a sleeping area, a kitchen and somewhere where we can store our stuff. We unfortunately had to leave the horses behind at a stable because the long trip would be too dangerous for them, plus horses don’t belong over seas. The only reason why we took them on the boat last time was because it only a twenty hour trip.

Anyways, we settled into the ship and started sailing toAthens.
