Mitchell Marsh, an all-rounder with a strong hitting style, will not be playing for Australia in the Champions Trophy 2025 due to a back ailment. In the next few days, Australia's selection committee will name a successor for the 33-year-old in the team.
Marsh, who has fought a long battle with numerous injuries during his career, complained of back issues during the last home Test matches against India. He was given lighter bowling loads during the series, but Beau Webster ultimately took his spot in the series' last game in Sydney.
According to information obtained, Marsh's symptoms worsened throughout his rehabilitation program, which prompted the National Selection Panel (NSP) to remove him from the Champions Trophy squad. A CA release said, "Marsh was ruled out of the event by the National Selection Panel and the Australian men's medical team due to the injury that has not responded well to rehabilitation."
"After his lower back issue worsened in the last few weeks, the NSP decided to give Marsh a longer-term rehabilitation program. Marsh's return to play plan now includes a period of additional rest and recuperation.
Marsh played for the Perth Scorchers in their only Big Bash League match since his last Test match in Melbourne on January 7, losing to the Melbourne Renegades for a duck. Given that Marsh is currently the T20I captain, there was a chance that he would captain the ODI team in Pakistan and the UAE because Pat Cummins is also currently injured. If Cummins does lose out, Steve Smith may now receive that honor.
In addition to a battle against time to be fullyfit before the IPL 2025 season, Marsh now has to endure another round ofrehabilitation. At the most recent auction, the Lucknow Super Giants paid INR3.4 crores to recruit him.
