9.2. The Dark Wizard

The MI9 tranquilliser had worn off by the time they got Roona cuffed and into the chair, Zoe removed Roona's hood to reveal her true identity. Dan held the crystal to his spy pod to scan it.

"It's the one we're looking for", Dan confirmed.

"Now, who are you really?" Zoe interrogated.

"I told you my name is Roona, I'm a member of the Order of the Red Claw, I serve the great one", Roona said as she looked between the trio.

"She had the crystal on her, but she won't budge. She still insists on pretending she's some character from those books." Dan informed the team who were in the base, as they had taken Roona into a classroom with no cameras to reduce the risk of being caught.

"You speak in riddles," Roona told the trio with a confused look on her face.

"Guys, send a photo of her face and I'll run it through the system to find out who she is", Alex's voice appeared in the trio's ears. Aneisha bent down to Roona.

"Smile." Aneisha held her spy pod towards Roona as it scanned her face, and it was sent to Alex's computer.

"Let's find out who you are," Frank said as he watched Alex put Aneisha's face through their database. Within a matter of seconds, they had a name.

"Doreen Doidge", Frank read out the name on the screen.

"That name rings a bell", Tom said as he turned to his computer.

"Lives at 33 Chestnut Grove, Little Walkham-on-the-Haze, she's a model citizen, Oxfam chair of the WI", Frank continued to read from the screen, informing the rest of the team about who Doreen was.

"Where did she get the skills to bypass all the high security at those labs?" Zoe asked no one in particular.

"Yeah, and fight like that", Dan says, rubbing his jaw, still in pain from where she kicked him.

"You will rue the day you cross swords with the great one", Doreen said, staying in character.

"It's weird how she won't come out of character unless... Unless she really believes she's a member of the Order of the Red Claw," Aneisha hypothesised.

"Are you suggesting she was able to pull off all of those robberies just by thinking she's a super thief?" Dan said in disbelief.

"Don't underestimate the power of the imagination, Dan", Frank told Dan, and before he could reply, Tom joined in with the conversation.

"I knew I knew her. Doran Doidge runs the Blade Quest fan club." Tom informs the team that this causes Zoe to come up with a new theory.

"If she's that into the books, maybe she mixed up fantasy in reality"

"Okay, so Doran's just another Blade Quest saddo", Dan said. He was ready for this mission to be over. "We still got to catch this grey wizard bloke"

"Dark wizard", Alex corrected Dan.

"Whatever"

"He could be another delusional fan", Zoe said, adding more people to her theory.

"We need to find out where they were going to meet", Frank said as he started to think of a plan to corner the dark wizard.

"If she still thinks she's Roona, there's no way she'll spill the beans"

"Where do we go from here?" Zoe inquired.

"Hang on a minute", Alex said as she picked up the booklet for the Blade Con event. "Of course, in the order of the Red Claw book, the thief delivers the eye of Namsuk to the cave of souls."
