Two days later, Morning…
I was curled up on the couch in the living room when the sound of the front door creaking open stirred me from my sleep. My eyelids felt heavy as I groggily rubbed my eyes, my vision still blurry from slumber. The hallway light illuminated a familiar figure stepping inside.
Through the haze of sleep, I recognized him—Subaru.
He halted mid-step, his eyes widened slightly as he took in my dishevelled state, sprawled out on the couch with a thin blanket barely covering me.
“Y/n?” He approached me quickly, his brows furrowing as he crouched beside the couch. “Why are you sleeping here?”
I yawned, stretching before blinking up at him. “So I can tell when one of you comes home,” I murmured, my voice thick with drowsiness.
Subaru sighed, running a hand through his hair before shaking his head. “You don’t have to do that. You should be in bed.”
I hummed in response, but I didn’t move. Now that I was awake, I could feel the tension in my limbs, the exhaustion that went beyond just physical tiredness. Still, a small part of me felt relieved seeing him again.
“You’re back..”
“...Yeah. I’m back. You hungry?”
"Mhm. Went to sleep skipping dinner last night."
"Oh, Y/n. What did we say about starving yourself?"
"I was too lazy to cook."
"Alright.. I'll whip up something real quick. Go wash your face."
I stood up and stretched while he made his way to the fridge, opening it to check what ingredients were available. I went to wash my face and came back, making my way directly to the kitchen.
Subaru had pulled out eggs, leftover rice, scallions, and some chicken. Chicken and egg fried rice, I thought to myself.
While he started prepping, I leaned against the counter and asked, "Where are Ayato-nii and Rei-nii?"
Subaru cracked an egg into a bowl. "Ayato's been going crazy trying to finish all his assignments since the semester's ending. He procrastinated way too much, and now he's paying for it."
I snorted at that. "Sounds like him."
He nodded, moving to dice the scallions. "Rei-nii... Well, he is working on some projects. He is desperately trying to get all meetings done before the semester ends."
