The day finally arrived. The first rally since the attack.
Tensions were high, very high, but so far, everything was going smoothly. Lawrence had spent the last week getting everything perfect, and everyone hoped it would all be okay.
Viya silently dressed herself, she layered her clothes to combat the cold air and in hopes that if she was shot her clothes would somehow stop a bullet. She braided her hair carefully, letting the dark rope hang behind her. Lastly, she grabbed her gas mask and placed it over her face. The darkened mask hid all her features, shielding her face from watchful eyes. She glanced in the mirror before he left her room, she stopped by a storage room to grab her gun before she hustled to meet Gally.
"There you are." He said.
"Nice to see you too." Viya commented.
Piper stood next to Gally, "You stay safe out there, K?" She said as she leaned in for a hug.
Piper had flat out refused to attend, instead she had decided to stay back with Rhea and watch movies on an old DVD player they had scavenged.
"Don't worry I will." Viya assured.
"Alright! Time to go guys!"
Viya gave Gally a nod as they climbed onto the white van. Viya waved goodbye to Piper as they drove out of the garage. Her gun moved up and down with each bump the van hit, even with it strapped over her shoulder, Viya still felt as if it was going to fly away at any given moment.
A large crowd had already formed by the time the group arrived, they were meant to be the last van to ride through the street. A man at the front held a megaphone, he took a deep breath as the van began to inch forwards.
Barricades had been placed at the front, separating the slums from the city; they were nowhere close to the wall anymore, but the crowd was much more aggressive last time. Who knew that shooting at protesters won't calm them down?
"They can't keep us back forever!" The man shouted into the crowd.
The people responded by cheering and chanting words that Viya could not decipher.
Viya scanned the angry faces of the crowd, there were men, women, children, elders, and teens. Somehow they had all unified against a common enemy, and Viya couldn't help but feel proud.
Then she caught sight of a face in the crowd. A face she thought she had left behind.
Nash.
As she looked further, she saw Newt behind him, Thomas and Brenda towards the right, Frypan and Jorge to the Left.
Viya elbowed Gally.
"Hey!" He yelped.
"Look." She hissed, motioning towards the group.
"Is that..."
"Yeah.""What do we do?" Gally asked.
"Radio Lawrence, I'll keep an eye on them."
Viya somehow managed to tune out the sounds around her, her sole focus was on the gladers as she watched them weave through the tightly packed crowd.
"Lawrence said to find a way to bring them back to base."
Viya nodded, "How should we do it?"
"I think the only way is to kidnap them."Viya paused, "Whatever works I guess."
Gally leaned forwards to whisper into a man's ear, his eyes widened before he passed on the message.
The van pulled off into an alleyway, Viya swiftly hopped down the gravel crunching beneath her boots.
