Jungkook lifted his gaze, his eyes unreadable, and Taehyung swore his heart tripped over itself.

Something about the way Jungkook was looking at him-silent, intense-made Taehyung panic. His palms went clammy. His throat felt dry.

"I-" he started, then stopped. His mind scrambled for an explanation, but every thought came out jumbled. "I just-I mean, I didn't- It's not like I-"

Jungkook didn't say a word. He just stared, and it was terrifying.

Taehyung let out a nervous chuckle, rubbing the back of his neck. "I just... couldn't throw it away, okay?" He winced at how weak that sounded, then rushed to add, "Not because of-! I mean, it's just a handkerchief! And the bandaid-uh-it's cute? Yeah! And-"

Before Taehyung could finish making a complete fool of himself, Jungkook took three quick steps forward, closing the space between them in an instant.

Then-

He kissed him.

A sharp gasp escaped Taehyung, muffled immediately as Jungkook crashed their lips together, his fingers gripping onto the fabric of Taehyung's shirt.

Taehyung's mind short-circuited. One second, he was babbling like an idiot, and the next, Jungkook's warmth was pressed against him, his lips firm but desperate, like he couldn't not do this.

And oh-oh, Taehyung was gone.

For a moment, Taehyung didn't move-couldn't move. His breath caught in his throat, his body frozen as his mind struggled to catch up with reality.

Then, as if a switch had flipped, Taehyung melted into the kiss.

His hands found their way to Jungkook's waist, gripping gently but firmly, grounding him in this moment. Jungkook let out a quiet, shuddering breath against his lips, and Taehyung felt his heart stumble in his chest.

Jungkook was the first to pull away, but just barely. His forehead rested against Taehyung's, his breath coming in uneven puffs, as if he wasn't sure whether to speak or to just feel.

Taehyung opened his eyes slowly, taking in the sight of Jungkook-flushed, wide-eyed, lips slightly parted.

God.

"Jungkook..." he breathed, his voice barely more than a whisper.

Jungkook's grip on his tshirt tightened. "Don't-" He stopped, shaking his head before trying again. "Don't ask me why I did that. I don't know. I just..." He swallowed, his voice quieter now. "I just had to."

Taehyung felt something deep in his chest clench.

His hands slid up Jungkook's back, holding him close. He wasn't sure what to say, wasn't sure if words would even be enough. So instead, he just whispered, "Okay."

Jungkook exhaled sharply, like he had been holding his breath, and Taehyung felt the tension in his body ease just a little.

Neither of them moved to step away. The air between them buzzed with something unspoken, something fragile yet undeniable.

Taehyung swallowed hard before murmuring, "You really don't have to look at me like that just because I kept it, you know."

Jungkook let out a breathless chuckle, shaking his head as he leaned in just a fraction closer. "You're such an idiot."

Taehyung grinned, his heart feeling lighter than it had in a long time. "Yeah," he admitted, his voice soft. "But I think I might be your idiot."

Taehyung barely had time to complete the sentence before Jungkook's lips was crashing against his again, urgent and demanding. A sharp gasp left him, but he didn't pull away. He couldn't. Jungkook took a step forward, making Taehyung take one back until his legs hit the edge of the bed, and he sank down.
