I stumbled up to the fifteenth floor of my new flat shuffling around my purse for the key.

"Jesus christ.. Kiera!" My fist made hard contact with the navy blue wooden door. I impatiently tapped my foot on the dusty, uneven 'welcome!' mat below me.

An alarming, high pitched screech erupted from the other side of the wall before the door in front of me flung open. I shared this fairly new flat with my bestfriend Kiera, whom was an art major at the college we both attended.

"Aah!!" She yelled, shaking her hands frantically above her head and pulling me into a tight hug.

"Welcome home!" She smiled. I returned an exhausted, warm smile and brushed by her.
"Yeah, home." I said, scoffing.

I stood, baffled at the inside of the "not-so-elegant" flat. The inside sugarcoated the outeide majorly.
A beautiful maroon rug layed along the perfectly polished hardwood floors, with deep chesnut furniture arranged tightly. A set of steep, barely railed in stairs trailed towards the upstairs while a large opening right of the living space indicated the kitchen area.

"Wow... Kiera. This is.." I muttured, in awe of the sight before me.

"Amazing??" She squeled, squeezing my shoulders from behind me. I slowly nodded gazing to the large shelfs on the left wall, filled with old, yet in shape books.

"Well... come see your room!" Kiera yelled, pulling me up the stairs. She dragged me down a short hallway, lined with large glass windows displaying the city before us.

"Close your eyes." She said, shoving her hands in my face. I sighed and closed my eyelids. Once they re-opened I nearly screamed.

My room was beautiful. A full size bed with a black headboard and legs stood directly across the doorway, while a tiny, yet useable desk stayed squished in the corner. I eagerly ran over and dropped my bag on it.

"This is great." I muttured, looking out the tiny window on the adjacent wall to my bed.

"Mhm." Kiera muttured.

"I love it so much already. Anyway, tonight I'm having some friends from school over tonight. I met a lot of new people with my new classes. A few hotties as well." Kiera said, winking and nudging at my side.

"Sooo.. I was hoping you'd make an appearance." She said.

"Yeah, sure whatever." I scoffed.

"Oh come on, don't be like that. It's time to move on, make new friends. You can't dwell on the past forever." Kiera sighed, and shut the door behind her as she left.

She was right. I plopped down on my new, un-made bed and stared at the ceiling. Maybe it was time. Before I could even dwell on the thought of the later get together, I slipped into a unexpected, yet needed, sleep.
