'Emma...Emma wake up!!' I hear my brother shouting from his side of our small underground room. I sit bolt upright in bed.
'What is it?' I whisper back. Although I know from the look on his face that they have found us. They know we are here. I scramble to put on my shoes and grab the last few things I have of home before this all happened. Before the whole world got turned upside down.
'There isn't time!' Matt shouts from across the room, I can hear the footsteps above us now, searching the rooms in the abandoned hotel, no one has ever found the trap door that leads to the cellars but from the look on Matts face that isn't a comfort to him. He wants out now, and he wants to just move on and find somewhere else. So we run, Matt holding the only weapon we have a knife and I clucking onto the last photos we have of our Mother and Father. There is a side door that leads to the cellars of a neighbouring building what is the way we leave what has been out home for the last month or two.
I seems like yesterday when it was my 17th birthday, and I had the best time with my friends and family, but now all I have is Matt, I mean if I had to choose someone to go though this with I would probably choose him. He is kind and considerate and he hasn't let the new laws change how he is with me. It's his belief that there are other people out there. Other people who haven't changed and we just need to find them. I have to be honest and say I'm not that optimists.
I mean could you name a guy that wouldn't jump at the idea of having complete control, of the world going back to how it was millions of years ago, where the worth of a man was determined by how well he fought and women were just prizes for the winner
Before all this went crazy I was just your normal girl at college, I had a crush on the bad boys and the girls and I used to talk about how I would end up with Darren, he was beautiful, he has two full sleeves and had a face that could make me melt. My brother was one of those that kinda floated around and knew everyone, which meant by the time I got to college everyone knew everything about me, which I guess helped with making friends but also meant that lots of my brothers mates couldn't come anywhere near me out of respect for him. Matt is only a year older than me he is 18 and but since this all started he has become my rock.
So Matt goes first as we crawl though what use to be a easily passable tunnel and has now caved in on it's self, we must have been crawling for 15 minutes when we both stop dead in out tracks and hear movement, because of the echoing in the tunnel it's impossible to tell which end it is coming from, I sat there frozen we can't get caught! We just can't! I won't become what by law I must I just can't do it! Matt grabs hold of my hand and pulls me in and wraps his arms around me, and he holds me until I stop shaking.
'Right' he whispers ' I say we keep going this way and if worst comes to worst we just fight out way out we have done it before' I nod my head because Matt has never been wrong before. So we keep going the way we were going, and Matt exits the tunnel first, to find the room completely empty. The biggest wave is relief crashes over me as I make my way out. This rooms is small and square and very much like the one we just left, looked like other people had also once used it to hide in. There was a small music box in the corner that has obviously been open so long that it has stopped playing, but it had a small ballerina on it, that was stuck in such a beautiful position, but she too was imprisoned but I was envious of her cause she didn't know it. I dragged my eyes over the rest of the belongings left here, a pen knife, one of those really fancy ones that has 20 different tools that can flip our of it, so I pick it up and I feel Matt watching me search for the knife that I know it has.
'Now we just need to get out of this building and everything will be fine' I say to encourage both of us cause I can see how much of a toll that crawl has taken on Matt emotionally and physically.
'Okay Ems..I'm gonna go our first, wait for my signal then come join me' he whispers as he walks calmly and positively towards the door that leads to the stairwell up into the main building. He turns the handle and pulls the door open, only the slam it shut straight away...he turns to me with a panicked look on his face..and shouts 'Go!'
