Tomorrow was the special night. Tomorrow was their anniversary. Six months together. Six wonderful months.

Kakashi strode down the dark road, lit primarily by lampposts, in the direction of the ring shop. He had visited the very same shop six months ago after his very first date with Katsu. Somehow he had just known he wouldn't regret it. Upon his first visit, he requested that a silver, diamond ring be fashioned to his liking. It was finally ready. He only hoped Katsu would love it.

He entered the small shop and approached the front desk. A short, stout man looked up from his papers and raised his eyebrows.

"Manabu Mori," Kakashi said casually, introducing himself by his false name. "I'm here to pick up a ring."

"I'm sorry, Sir, but we're closed," the shrewd man said grumpily, his beady eyes returning to his papers.

"I'll pay in cash," Kakashi responded with a sigh. He knew how to handle people like this. They only cared about one thing.

The man's eyes snapped up to him and he stood to shake Kakashi's hand. "The last name 'Mori', you said?" he asked eagerly, the edge of greed evident in his voice.

Kakashi nodded once. "I came six months ago requesting a custom ring be crafted to my design."

The short man ruffled through his papers for a good few moments before finding what he was looking for "Ah, yes," he finally said, raising small spectacles to his even smaller eyes in order to read the minuscule text. "A pure silver band embellished with a diamond cut in the shape of the crest for the Village Hidden in the Leaves." The man looked up suspiciously after reading the ring's description.

"Ah, yes," Kakashi replied, his tone calm. "My girlfriend's grandmother used to live there," he quickly improvised. "Had a ring just like it, she did." His eyes shut in a forced smile.

The man gave a curt nod and approached rows upon rows of file drawers in an office behind him. He returned several moments later with a small, velvet box. "Care to examine it?" the shop owner asked, offering Kakashi the box.

He accepted it with a nod and flipped the box open. He grinned immediately at the glimmering object twinkling before him. Without a second look, he dropped a wad of cash on the man's desk. "Keep the change," he said before moving to exit the shop. The ring was perfect.

Odd... Kakashi thought as he left the shop, leaving the greedy, middle-aged man to fawn over his newest profit. A storm wasn't meant to commence that night. Thunder rumbled in the black sky like a waking lion. Large rain droplets began to fall from the steely grey clouds like tears.

Kakashi held the box protectively in his palm, the rain doing little to dampen his ecstatic mood. Katsu had no idea about his planned proposal. Would the question shock her? Could she possibly not be ready for such a commitment? It was true, she had never once told him she loved him. But that didn't matter. Kakashi knew her heart- or at least, hoped more than anything he did.

And, if she did  happen to deny him, then so be it. He was a stubborn shinobi. Everybody knew that. He did not give up easily. And he would not  give up on her.

But no, he wouldn't allow himself to think so negatively. He had to believe she would say yes. This was supposed to–

Lightning flashed blindly in the road ahead of Kakashi, disrupting his train of thought and forcing him to shield his eyes from the blast. He could feel the storm's electricity sparking in the air. Every lamppost flickered briefly before dying out.
