Chapter 7
“Jocelyn, do you think this is from Jackson? If he really is sorry and he feels the way he says he does, I want him to feel the anguish I did after he broke up with me. Who else would buy me a bracelet with a flower, heart and key charms? It all matches everything strange lately. The flowers left at the door and the message key to your heart” Brielle responded with ragged breath, clammy palms and an onslaught of a headache.
The charms directed Jackson as the culprit behind the recent stir of activity surrounding her. The recent behavior was odd, and didn’t understand why everything was happening like it was. Jocelyn brought her out of her short lived trance, “you need to meet up with Jackson, and be firm with him on your feelings.” Brielle turned her head as she rolled her eyes. “I just want to forget it and hope that it all just goes away. I think with some time, he will back off. I need to concentrate on my upcoming project and shouldn’t be worrying about all this.” That signaled for conversation to cease and not be brought up again.
Sunday and Monday passed as if the days were skipped by all together. Fortunately nothing crazy happened, and Brielle was thinking she made a wise decision to let everything just cool off on its own.
Walking in the office on Tuesday morning, Brielle gathered her equipment as she walked to the conference room. “Stacey, are all three models here for the shoot? We have about half hour before we need to meet at the Sk8er Rink for the 80’s era shoot, and all props, costumes and makeup and hair stations are ready.” Stacey nodded her head, “Yes they just arrived and I have collected all the paperwork you were needing from each of them.” Brielle smiled and thanked Stacey. Her last assistant had left to pursue her dream job of becoming an editor at the very magazine her ex worked for, People of ATL. Fortunately Brielle met Stacey the first time she visited the Electro Pro. After talking for about thirty minutes, Brielle felt an ease wash over her and asked Stacey if she would ever be interested in becoming a photography assistant and Intern. Stacey was ecstatic for the opportunity.
The drive to the Sk8er Rink was a short ten minute commute. Arriving on time, the models took to their stations for hair, makeup and costume. The set consisted of others in the background to make the set more realistic of those times. The set would consist of all three models in different poses with different pieces of technology. The clothing attire would be bold bright colors and leg warmers along with the big teased hair and bold eye makeup and bright blush. It was fun reminder of what things were like as a child.
“Okay ladies, time to get started.” Stacey had everyone in place. Amber was on roller skates with an old fashion Sony Walkman, Megan was acting as if she was recording a party with the Sony BMC-100P hand held camcorder, and Lauren was holding the big Motorola DYNATAC cell phone that was made popular by character Zach Morris of the hit T.V. show Saved By The Bell. The models were excited to be working on a job that consisted of a fun theme they could let loose and not be so serious.
"We have some great shots here. I can't wait to look at the proofs." Brielle and Stacey were conversing with each other and the models as the day progressed on.
“Let’s take twenty to freshen up and then assume your spots so we can call it wraps after the next round.” Brielle shouted as she was wrapped up the last photo of the moment. The models took time to freshen up hair and makeup and to take a restroom break before returning to their current position. As Brielle walked to grab her water, she heard a smooth deep voice call after her. When she turned she saw that Marc was the face behind the voice. “Hello Brielle, its fancy seeing you here.” Brielle laughed at the fake accent Marc used to gain a smile and laughter from her. “Hi Marc, good to see you again. Do you work for Sk8er Rink now?” Brielle asked with curiosity. “No I still work for Electro Pro, but I have been picking up some side work from time to time. I am working as one of the background models, hence the crazy get up I am wearing.” Marc answered as he pointed to his attire. “Besides, if I dressed like this every day, I wouldn’t have the chance to obtain a beautiful girl’s phone number such as yourself.” Brielle blushed and Marc smiled sheepishly. She was attracted to Marc, but was hesitant on responding knowing that Jackson was playing with her mind and emotions. “That is very sweet of you Marc, but I am not looking get involved with anyone as I just got out of a serious relationship.” Brielle wanted to be up front with Marc to prevent any misunderstandings. “I totally understand, I am not looking for anything serious just more of enjoying company of a fun loving girl that shares the same interests as myself. I was finagled by my ex when she took money and belongings and took off.” Marc finished with a deflated look. “Well Marc, since you put it that way, how about we go hang out sometime? Maybe it would be a good change of atmosphere, seeing as both of us have been through the ringer. I am glad we ran into each other. Well I better get back to work. I just have one last round of photos to take.” Brielle’s spur of moment decision she had laid out for Marc, had him awe like a child in a toy store. She actually felt the same way, as if maybe this was what she needed. Something fun, fresh and no pressure of a relationship looming over her. She was ready to enjoy what freedom she had and live life to the fullest.
Once the job was complete and everything wrapped up, Brielle decided to stop by her office before heading home. As she reached for her cell to phone her mom, her ringtone started playing along to Carrie Underwood’s Before He Cheats. Brielle knew that ringtone was designated for none other than Jackson. She should speak to him, but she wasn’t ready to and avoided the call. Maybe she could hold off until the next interview took place next week.
Placing her phone back in her purse, she grabbed for her car keys. Suddenly feeling claustrophobic, Brielle decided to take advantage of the warm day that had progressed, and to lower the convertible top of her Mustang. Maybe enjoying the beautiful sunset with the warm breeze flowing through her hair would be the perfect remedy to the growing annoyance named Jackson.
