Luke's long legs crossed the room in a matter of seconds. He clasped his hands around my jaw, staring into the pits of my eyes.

I watched as the tears welled up in his eyes, ultimately spilling over the edge in great surges of power.

I found myself jealous.

Mostly because I couldn't cry. I may never cry again, but also because he would one day live his life normally.

Maybe he'd have a family, a dog, and a career to lean on.

Me, on the other hand? I was just a fucked up slut who didn't really have a set future in front of her.

Luke stole my attention from my thoughts as he spoke. " Don't say that, Hannah." He scolded as if I was a puppy.

"Don't you ever s-say that. You are strong. You're going to l-live. " he sputtered between breathes and hiccups from his tears.

His eyes were growing puffy as his nose was already inflamed.

My chest swelled at the sight of my brother in such state, but it wouldn't burst.

It couldn't.

I shook my head lightly, " we all come to an end, Luke. I've come to terms that this is mine."

He let out a squeak until his body collapsed into a ball curled into the fetal position on my floor.

Luke softly rocked back and forth as his body shook violently, battling the emotion.

I knelt down beside him, grasping his hand into mine reassuringly.

The shaking slowed as he peaked his head up at me.

His long arms pulled me to his chest while he bawled into my shoulder whilst shaking his head. "No. No, no. You're not going to die, Hannah. "

His eyes lifted to my face and once again met my eyes.

They were locked there, looking for the truth in them, but he found it.

And it devastated him.

He pushed away from me harshly. His limbs moved him backwards until his body collided with the wall behind him.

Luke's head still shook relentlessly. He glared at me slightly, lowering his gaze a bit.

With his sleeve, he wiped a mixture of tears and snot onto his shirt from his face.

He looked broken.

His demeanor reminded me of a time when we were younger, happier.

We had been sprinting around the house like hooligans when Luke tossed something at me, except he missed.

The toy slammed into our mother's favorite vase as it was ruined.

Together, we had tried to piece it together.

I think we hoped that she wouldn't notice, but all we had on hand was some super glue and good intentions.

It was one of the first naive things I did as a rebel.

Luke was a mess about it, though, being a mamas boy. He dreaded being in trouble.

He cleared his throat a little so that I was paying attention to him.

"You can't go. You need to be here for everything. Promise me you'll live. Promise me you'll stay. "
