Songs of the chapter: IrresitibleChapter 3: Blackmailing.
I was grateful that the basement of our school is most of the time deserted during lunch. It was understandable. The place was poorly lighted, old and scary. I scowled at the spider webs hanging over my head.
It disgusted me that some students held their clubs here. Fortunately for me, the book club successfully convinced Mrs Young, the headmistress, to let us use the library after school.
I passed by the dance room -which was just an empty classroom with fans and a few chairs here and there- and was surprised to hear music blasting. I resisted the urge to sneak a peek inside and continued my way to the end of the empty hallway.
But then I heard a familiar voice booming from inside the room and stopped in my track. So this was where Jessie and her group stayed during lunch. I couldn't help but chuckle. It was a way better explanation than the theory MacKayla told us about.
It would disappoint her to know that Jessie didn't exactly fear her so much to set foot in her territory- the cafeteria.
Confused?
Here's the thing: Jessica Wilson was a normal girl before she happened to walk into the gym for the cheerleading tryout. It really crushed her when the girls refused to let her join which was odd as she was extremely good- probably the best I ever saw. The next day she came to school as if nothing happened. She only responded to the name Jessie and a week later she announced to everyone that she was creating a new club - the music prodigy (or like my friends like to call them, the music freaks).
They gained a lot of popularity and this was it. A war between our two group started. They avoided each other like plague and when they accidentally met, it was everyone in a near radius who would coward in fear. The music prodigy were rarely seen during lunch. Mackayla used this to her profit and said that it was because they were scared of her- which was absurd. I tried to not get involved as much as possible but I was Mackayla's friend and I was supposed to defend her.
Did I really have to choose a side? Or was it my fear of being left alone that drove me to accept her ideas?
Now I realized how stupid I was. I still was. I still sticked by her side.
I shook my head at my thoughts.
This was ridiculous.
A weird yet honest conversation with my brother and I started to doubt my friends? I had to get my facts straight. I knew I needed to change but I wouldn't destroy my friendship with the group in the process. I couldn't do that.
I walked to the detention room and threw the door open before I could cower away. I scanned the room for Damon but in vain once again. The only persons in here were a snoring teacher and a boy who was creepily looking at me. I happily ignored both of them.
I sighed in disappointment. I should have just waited for the next business dinner my parents would have organized. I mentally facepalmed. Why didn't I think of that before abandoning my lunch to come here?
Suddenly someone bumped into me and walked away without a glance at me. Clumsy me stumbled forward and nearly fell on my butt if it wasn't for the table next to me. I straightened up and started cursing the ignorant boy whose mother couldn't raise him well.
All words died as I met Damon's piercing brown eyes and amused smile. He turned away, removed his phone and started typing on it. I closed my mouth and this time facepalmed for real. I ignored the creepy guy's chuckles.
