After being invited to Haru's home to stay for the night, Jolee along with the rest of the group made themselves at home. Later that day, Jolee joins Katara and Haru as they walk in the woods.
Katara: I'm sorry about what I said earlier. I didn't know about your father.
Haru: That's okay. It's funny, the way you were talking back in the store? It reminded me of him.
Katara: Thanks.
Haru: My father was very courageous. When the Fire Nation invaded, he and the other Earthbenders were outnumbered ten to one. But they fought back anyway.
Katara: Sounds like a great man.
Haru: After the attack, they rounded up my father and every other Earthbender, and took them away. We haven't seen them since.
Jolee: So that's why you hide your Earthbending. Hhm....
Haru: Yeah. Problem is ...the only way I can feel close to my father now is when I practice my bending. He taught me everything I know.
Jolee ponders on this. To him, it would be the equivalent of a Jedi or any other Force Sensitive hiding their ability to use the Force to hide from the Sith. Katara then glances down to her necklace.
Katara: See this necklace? My mother gave it to me.
Haru: It's beautiful.
Katara: I lost my mother in a Fire Nation raid. This necklace is all I have left of her.
Haru: It's not enough, is it?
Katara: No.....
Haru then turns to Jolee.
Haru: What about you? Did you....
Jolee: It's been a long time since I've seen my family. But I've learned a long time ago that it's best not to dwell on the past.
As Jolee said that, Katara pondered Jolee's words. As they continued walking, a loud boom sounds and rock and dust blasts from a distant mine entrance. An old man cries out.
Old Man: Help! Help!
Haru: The mine!
Jolee along with Katara and Haru run quickly to the entrance, which has caved in and left a tremendous pile of rocks pinning the old man to the ground on his stomach. Sand continues to pour down, rocks intermittently falling.
Old Man: Help me!
Haru braces his back against the mine entrance. Katara pulls the old man.
Katara: Ugh! It's not working! We have to get help!
Haru: There's no time, pull harder!
Katara: Haru. There's a way you can help him.
Haru: I.....I can't.
Katara: Please, there's no one around to see you. It's the only way!
Jolee: She's right, Haru! There's no time!
Haru leaps away from the falling debris, spinning back to face it as he assumes an Earthbending form. As he does it, Jolee spots a boulder about to fall on the old man. Without hesitation, Jolee uses the Force to grip the rock and crush it into tiny pieces. With a sudden and strong move, he blasts all the rocks down the tunnel, freeing the old man.
Katara: Haru! You did it!
The two take place beside the old man and aid him walking away from the mine. Later at the barn after helping the man, Katara is sitting up in her bedroll with a lamp in her lap. Sokka is lying on a square bale of hay with his blanket over him, and Aang is sprawled out on Appa's head with Momo lying on his back. Jolee meditates on the Force.
Katara: It was so brave of Haru to use his Earthbending to help that old man.
Aang: You must have really inspired him.
Katara: I guess so.
Sokka: Everyone should get some sleep, we're leaving at dawn.
Katara: Dawn?! Can't we sleep in for once?
Sokka: Absolutely not! This village is crawling with Fire Nation troops. If they discover you're here, Aang, we'll be eating fireballs for breakfast.
Jolee: Hhm. Always on the move. You know, a little rest can do wonders. I should know.
Sokka: We can't rest. Especially in enemy territory!
Jolee: Enemy territory, you say? I would say....occupied territory. But I suppose you have a point.
Sokka: Thank you!
Katara: I'd rather eat fireballs than nuts.
Sokka: Goodnight!
Katara and Aang share a few playful chuckles with each other before she blows out the lamplight to get some rest. Jolee continues to meditate on the Force before going to sleep. Meanwhile, a group of Fire Nation soldiers march on a mission through the dead of night. The man in the lead raps on a wooden door. Haru answers the door, suddenly gasping in shock as he sees the troops. The old man that was saved earlier points at Haru.
Old Man: That's him! That's the Earthbender!
The Fire Nation leader shoves the old man out of the way and approaches Haru. Haru screams as the man forces Haru into his grip and hauls him away. In the morning, Katara carries a jar outside of the barn. She sets it down beside a water pump and proceeds to waterbend, drawing water out of the spigot and into the waiting pot. Picking it up, she spots Haru's mother standing with her back to her, gazing toward the distant ocean. Haru's mother slowly turns around, laying a tearful gaze upon Katara. Katara realizes Haru has been taken and drops the pot, as it shatters to pieces at her feet.
Katara: They took him! They took Haru away!
Aang: What?
Katara: The old man turned him in to the Fire Nation - it's all my fault - I forced him into Earthbending!
Jolee: Calm yourself, Katara. You couldn't have known this would've happened.
Sokka: Slow down, Katara. When did this happen?
Katara: Haru's mother said they came for him at midnight.
Sokka: Then it's too late to track him, he's long gone.
At this point, Jolee could see a look of determination in her eyes.
Jolee: What are you thinking, Katara?
Katara: We don't need to track him. The Fire Nation is going to take me right to Haru.
Aang: And...why would they do that?
Katara: Because they're going to arrest me for Earthbending.
Aang and Sokka share a horrified look while Jolee smirks. And with that, a bold plan to find and rescue Haru had been set in motion.
