EXTENDED...

"What—... what did you just say?" He released Iris's hand & leaned forward, his eyes narrowing, his brow furrowing as if grounding himself, steadying against the sudden dizziness threatening to take over.

Jasiah's world tilted on its axis. His vision blurred for a moment as he tried to process the words.

He questioned reality itself. Maybe he had misheard. Maybe it was some kind of fucked up hallucination, his mind playing tricks on him. He hadn't been in the right headspace lately—too much on his plate, too much blood on his hands. It wasn't impossible.

This had to be the devil talking. Jasiah refused to believe it. The same devil that used Emery & Xavier to break him had to be still lurking, still trying to sink claws into him after failing to use them as vessels.

Twins.

That word echoed in his head, mocking him.

Jasiah wanted kids so badly, one day. He ached for it, but his own body stood in the way. After being told he had a low sperm count & that the chances of a natural pregnancy were slim to none without treatment, he let that dream die before it could break him any further.

So he fucked Iris raw countless times, filling her up without hesitation, without protection, without a second thought & without a plan b. & every time, nothing. Just the same empty reality, the same confirmation of what the doctors had told him. Until now.

Dr. Ashe glanced down at her clipboard before looking back up, meeting his gaze with an expression that carried a hint of sympathy. "Iris is pregnant with twins, Mr. Brown. Were you not aware of this?" She asked. "She's about twelve weeks along. We confirmed it earlier today with an ultrasound after seeing distinct fetal heartbeats & separate amniotic sacs. The ultrasound confirmed the presence of two embryos, each developing normally for their gestational age."

Pregnant? Twins? Twelve weeks? That was three months ago. What kinda sex did we have three months ago? Too much raw sex to keep up. Did she know she was pregnant?

She raised an eyebrow, her voice gentle but firm. "I understand this is a lot to take in. It's always a shock when someone doesn't realize they're expecting, but the ultrasound was clear. She's pregnant, & the babies are healthy. There are no signs of complications as of now."

He looked back at Iris, his eyes scanning her as though he might find some sign that made this make sense. But there was nothing. Just the quiet beeping of the machines.

Now, what Emery did had only turned him up even more. To know she had been pregnant the entire time made his blood boil. But what confused him even more was the fact that the twins were healthy. After everything Iris had endured, how the fuck did they survived that?
