The working title of this story is Chapter One.
Chapter One is a fictionalized account of my sophomore year. This is not a self-insert Mary Sue. Yes, it is a self-insert, but as it says on Wikipedia: "True self-insertion is a literal and generally undisguised representation of the author; most characters described as 'Mary Sues' are not." Mary Sues are "poorly developed" characters, "too perfect and lacking in realism to be interesting". The fictitious version of me, Morgan Page, is a dork.
I got the idea for this story while reading The Things They Carried (by Tim O'Brien) for English class. The author is telling his own story, yet it is a work of fiction. I liked that. I also liked how it was written in a non-linear series of interconnected short stories. Chapter One will be sort of similar, but significantly more linear and written in journal entries.
I'm not writing this to be self-centered and egoistic. I'm writing this because I've had more fun and learned more in my sophomore year than in any other year of my life. I've always wanted to write a memoir, so I figured I'd try something new and give it a go.
That being said, I'd like you to read this story as a novel, not an autobiography. I'm categorizing it as fiction, after all.
Thank you, and enjoy the preview. :)
P.S. Please don't be rude if you think something's stupid. You can offer advice about how to word things so they're less cheesy (though I'm already doing my best to avoid cheesiness), but please remember that this is based on real events.
