"I really have to pee..." I thought to myself as I made my way to the restroom in a bar in Bali. I finally took a well-deserved vacation away from work and my ex-husband, and I have saved up enough money to come here. And who knows, I may even meet the real man of my dreams. I sighed at the thought, washed my hands, and pushed the bathroom door open to go get a drink. As I walked to the counter to order, I felt someone watching me. I turned around to see who it was. Hmm. Nobody.
I continued to the front, and felt two eyes on me again. This time I looked at the corner of the bar. There stood a very tidy-looking man. Oh my... He smiled at me with a handsome grin, so me being the boy-crazy woman that I am, decided to stroll over.
"Hey. What's your name?"
"I'm Nikki. And you are?"
"Scott Rush. Can I buy you a beer?"
I agreed and I spent my time with him, drinking lots of beers and talking about each other. What a sweet man! When it was my time to leave, he walked me outside and gave me his phone number in exchange for mine.
"I had a wonderful time with you, Nikki."
"As did I, Scott."
I gave him a quick kiss on the cheek.
"I will promise to call you later tonight."
"Okay. See you next time!"
I couldn't believe that I just walked into a bar expecting to sit alone with a drink, but ended up with a handsome date! I felt butterflies in my stomach. He is absolutely...
Perfect.
So later that night, I waited for a call. At seven, I was sitting in my hotel room with my phone next to me, reading a book. Eventually I put down the book and checked for any messages. Silly me, the ringer would've gone off if he did call... Another hour passed, and I decided to do my nails and wait some more. Still no calls! I thought, maybe he's one of those late-caller guys... Or maybe he's a wealthy man with a night job? I started to dream about Scott, and ended up dozing off.
Two hours passes, and it was ten fourty-nine. My phone went off, and I sat up as quick as I can... Only to find out that some random number was calling. Maybe he used his friend's phone? I would do anything to hear his voice again, so I picked up the phone.
"Hello?"
"Hey Monica!"
"Huh?"
It was some lady with an American accent. Not Scott.
"Wait Monica? Why do you have a Scottish accent?"
"I'm British, for one, and I am afraid you have the wrong number."
"Oh. She gave me the wrong number! That bi-"
I hung up before that lady started to yell about her bad friend. I was very depressed that he never called me. Maybe it never happened? I tried to convince myself that I never met him. Just forget about him and everything will be okay...
I turned on the TV and a sad romantic soap-opera was on, so I switched to another random channel. Then, the lady on the screen announced something that changed my life forever.
"Drug smuggler, Scott Rush, is sentenced to life in prison."
