"You're finally here, come in, Mr. Snape."
Before Snape even touched the doorknob — the one he recognized from Steve's letter — the voice reached him.
Without a word, Snape stepped inside, catching sight of Steve at a distance, seated at his desk. It made Snape wonder how he had heard the voice, which seemed to have come from behind the door. Still, he said nothing and approached the investigator.
"You've finally arrived... and you look very different..." Steve narrowed his eyes, clearly observing Snape's dark aura, which seemed to be spiraling out of control.
"I'm being noticed by everyone I pass... I've had some problems with my magic," Snape replied.
"How is it that, all of a sudden, you're as powerful as the most powerful wizard alive?" Steve asked, raising an eyebrow at him.
"If you're asking how I did it, I won't answer," Snape responded honestly.
"Haha. Fair enough. It's not like I'll die if I don't know, and frankly, I'm not that interested. Still, it's surprising to see you walking around with so much magical power. Either way... something tells me you need my help." Steve gave a small smile.
Snape sighed before nodding. "Yes... you can help me hide it. You know... I don't want to draw so much attention anymore," Snape admitted.
Steve's smile widened even more. "Of course. Why do you think I called you here?"
He stood up from his chair and went to one of his bookshelves, pulling out a book that seemed ordinary. The cover featured small angels, reminiscent of a Christian text from this world.
Steve opened the book, revealing a hollowed-out section inside. Nestled within was a small box, which he carefully removed before placing the book back on the shelf.
Snape raised an eyebrow in silence, observing the process.
"I didn't know you were Christian... I thought everyone in the wizarding world treated Merlin as their own kind of messiah, always invoking his name in disbelief."
Steve returned to his desk and sat down.
"Would you like some tea? Please, join me."
Snape sat, though his gaze remained fixed on the man in front of him.
"Everyone needs faith, Snape. Merlin was a mortal in this world. But do you believe in divine things beyond this world?"
Steve poured tea into both cups, one for himself and one for Snape.
"Yes... there are things beyond this world."
Snape — or rather, Morou Kaind — had his own faith in the Guardians and the teachings they had given to the Order, far removed from this planet.
"Then you understand what I'm talking about... You see, I've always believed in God, the creator of this world and everything in the universe," Steve began, sipping his tea.
Snape, surprised by the statement, remained silent. No one he knew had ever spoken of a god before. The wizarding world had its own explanations. But with people constantly invoking Merlin's name, Snape found it all rather foolish.
"Perhaps you're right, but I doubt you can answer this question..." Snape commented.
"You may be correct. But this is what I believe — until the end of my days. I've always looked up at the sky, marveling at the vastness of creation."
