Chapter 2: Nefarious.
Halien's fist came pounding on the wooden desk. A crack found its way from under his fist.
"Do you realize what this could lead to?!" he yelled, glaring at Alice, who was holding her breath, hunched on the chair.
"And you!" he turned his ferocious gaze on me; "You didn't do anything!"
The grave tone of his voice and the seriousness of the situation left me with no answer. "It's my job as the director of this academy," he continued, "To recruit people who have even the slightest of supernatural powers. And I gave this responsibility to you two for a night, and you screw up!"
I looked at Alice, the ashamed expression confirming my theory. "I knew it.", I muttered.
Halien stared at me: his sharp ears had caught my words.
"Did you send her out of the academy last night?"I asked. Beside me, Alice sunk lower in her chair.
Confusion in his eyes marred the rage." Yeah. I did," the rage returned. "For one night! So I could...."
"Spend time with Hazel?" The forbidden words just slipped from my mouth. I could almost hear Alice groan. Halien's face changed colors, and in a wink of an eye, felt his hand on my shoulder: I went flying, crashing in the wall. As fast as lighting, the 21 year old director was there, his dark blonde hair falling over his eyes, his grey eyes which raged, shrewd. He bent his head, as if putting it on my shoulder, and quietly hissed.
"If that fact goes out of that door," he pointed with the other hand that wasn't forcing me to the wall, "Your blood will be mine." It wasn't an mere threat and I knew it.
"Why don't you just make it more public?" The question wisped out.
For a moment I thought he was going to suck my blood out right then by the way he bore his eyes into me, but then they softened and exhaustedly, his hand slipped away from my shoulder.
"I don't know!" Exhaustion and irritation rang in his voice. "I just thought...I don't know."
As if he had no energy left, he slumped back into his chair and rubbed his eyes tiredly.
"Okay, so the girl got away. But we have to get her back, before the any of the dark academy gets her."
The dark academy. That was just the simplest name for them. To go in simplifications would arise anger and name calling. They were the rival academy of the light academy, as our academy was generally called, all their students evil and bloodthirsty. They were taught to be selfish and devoid of emotions: killing and hunting was a mere game to them. It was usually a fight between the two academies to get the most people to teach them their ways of using power and strengthening it. Most of their students were the Dark children: demons, werewolves, vampires, trackers, bounty hunters etc. It didn't mean we didn't have them at our academy but the dark academy just projected such an image that you couldn't imagine a fairy sparkling with fairy dust, singing and flouncing in their courtyards and baking cupcakes that had sprinkles on them. They did have faeries though, but they were those who cursed and stomped in the courtyards, and instead of baking cupcakes, would throw them at some random student passing by in anger.
"I heard from Andres," Alice said, "He said Isis was already searching for the girl."
I sunk in my chair. "How did she get to know?"
Isis was one of the most intelligent and powerful students of the dark academy. Using her powers of persuasion and torture, she was one of the best hunters to track down rogue Magic children.Halien's expression didn't reflect ours: he knew something that assured him that the situation was not already out of control.
"Aren't you worried?" Alice asked him.
He smirked as if he had been waiting for her to say that.
"We have the upper hand in this one."
Alice raised her eyebrows. "Upper hand?"
Halien nodded knowingly.

'This guy is incredible," Halien gushed on as we weaved through the practicing students in the Practice Hall. This was where all the students partnered up and précised their techniques and powers so that they could get stronger and could level up.
"Whoa," Alice ducked as a 17 year old shot a lightning bolt out of her hands. If Alice hadn't ducked she'd be fried.
Halien, oblivious to all happening around him, continued. "He is super talented and extremely powerful."
"Where is your mystery guy?" Alice looked around.
"Here" Halien had led us to the end of Practice Hall. The golden sunshine that danced into the room through the window, did not light up this part of the huge room. Out of the shadows, materialized a 17 year old guy, with interesting features and honey brown hair. He was build up, and his dark blue shirt hugged his chest. He gave all of us a friendly smile, which revealed his impressive sharp canines.
I guessed. "Werewolf?"
He grinned. "Nah. Howling at the moon is not my thing."
We all chuckled. Halien stepped forward.
"Alice, Keira meet Blake." Halien gestured at us. "Blake, Alice and Keira."
" Nice to meet you." I must have made a mistake but I detected a hint of steel in Alice's voice. She made no effort to shake his hand so just I waved at him and shoved my hand back into my jeans pocket.
Okay, let's get to business." Blake pounded his fist into the wall nearby and the bricks neatly stepped aside to make a door.
As long as I've been here, I didn't know about that. The brick wall led to a medium sized room that looked like a lab. An only tube light hung from the middle of the ceiling flickering blue light. Glass cupboards were placed in front of each wall, and inside different kinds of bottles were placed. A medical table was placed in the middle with a basin in the side. Blake stepped forward and pulling open a drawer from the south wall cupboard, he took out a roll of paper and spread it on the medical table.
"Here," He traced the map drawn on the paper with his finger, "Is where Isis plans on taking down the girl. Here', he pointed again on the map, "Is where we take her down."
"Won't it be better if we let her take the girl and then take her down?" I asked.
His eyes flickered at me. "That's a good point. But she'll have the upper hand then, and she'll get stronger."
Alice chimed in. 'Not to mention, we don't know how many reinforcements she plans on bring with her."
Halien stroked his chin. "Then we'll bring more reinforcements than her."
We're not trying to win a war."
"Keira's right." Alice said. "Besides, the sun is going to set in some time." She worriedly glanced at her wrist watch. "The Dark children are at their strongest at night. And it's going to be full moon."
Even Blake looked worried now. "This means, not only they'll use the moon to harness their power but they might even bring werewolves. They're invincible on full moon nights."
Halien rubbed his temples. "But even Keira is at her strongest at night."
" But I don't use the moon to harness my powers."
"Actually you do," Blake looked at me, with a different kind of light in his eyes like I was a trophy.
"I do?"
"Yeah," He began excitedly but Halien stopped him.
"Even if she learns about it, she needs time to practice it and the perfect it. It'll make her more stable if you teach her now."
He looked at me then. 'It's decided then, Blake and Keira, you guys trail after Isis. I'll send the best reinforcements I can find."
