Watching the Sun go lower and lower, I heard my two friends, Payton and Alexis, call to me. How strange, that I was the only straight one of the two. "Doesn't it ever get awkward when they talk about women?" I'm constantly asked by my Mother. Or, the usual, "Bet you'll hook up with one of them," I get from guy friends. In all honesty, I could never ask for a better, close knit group of friends. Even if we don't like the same things, or are different in general ways.
"Where are we going?" I asked Payton, who was leading us down the street. "I thought we would go somewhere more interesting than a Museum," Payton implied.
Since it was at night, I suggested we go to a Night Club. Or some kind of place that's awake.
"Burlesque?" Alexis questioned Payton, seeming suddenly anxious.
With also rapid excitement, Payton sharply turned the corner into a building, that led to a downwards staircase.
Music played, loudly. A Jazz Ensamble was positioned on an off set stage in the corner of the large room, with tables and a bar to the left. The room glowed wildly with neon and candle light, and a full wall size stage dominated the focus of clients and audience waiting for their drinks.
"This is a strip club," I laughed, nervously.
"No, Lena, this is something much different," Alexis insisted.
"Much sexier," Payton added.
We sat down as the lights dimmed lower. 3 tall, beautiful women stood straight on stage, on pedestals. Short, tall, and tallest. Suddenly, the pedestals spun slowly, revealing the faces of the women. They gleamed a small smile, and bit their lips. They shifted their hands to their waist, and began to dance to a gradual beat. Their outfits shook as they moved. The ruffles of their skirts and the curves of their corsets moved with them.
"If that isn't hot," Payton said in amusment.
"Look at the middle one. She's my favorite," Alexis seemed anxious again.
"Aren't they supposed to be less dressed?" I wondered. My curiosity couldn't be tamed at how classy and elegant it was.
"No, Lena. It's a Burlesque club." Alexis answered, unfocused.
"Come again?" Still confused, I raised my eyebrow.
"Burlesque is a tease, Lena. A classic tease," Payton translated.
I then understood. I also quickly grew a fondingness. It was so Rad. The way the routines worked, and how well they moved. I could now see as to why it had alot of business.
Suddenly, the lights dimmed to pitch black. Pindrop silence invaded the room, when a white light showed on the stage, revealing a large prop clam shell. It was a light, baby blue color.
The Jazz Ensamble played quietly, then gradually getting faster, as the shell spun slowly, and the Violin intensified, mysteriously.
I was in awe, as a woman appeared standing on the floor of the shell. Her shiny, black hair fell at her shoulders, and touched her burgendy colored corset, tied with black lace. She had violet tights on over her legs, as she stood there in black heels.
"It's Burlesque," She sang in a whisper.
