"Arghh!" I screamed. All of a sudden I was woken up from my awful nightmare by the cold chills coming from the part-way open window that I had locked when I went to bed. It almost felt like small shards of snowflakes breaking on my skin. "brrrrr" I said as shivers ran down my spine.
My eyes were glued on the frosty window. All sorts of thoughts raced through my mind as I tried to figure out why my window was open. I quickly scanned the room to check if anything seemed odd or different. My vision was a little blurry, as I had just woken up. I rubbed my eyes several times and took a sip of my refreshment on the side table next to me. I double checked the room. Several times actually.
Even though I was now more awake than before, I decide its best to lay back down. I'm probably over thinking this, maybe I forgot to lock the window and thought I did. Maybe my mother came in to let in some fresh air, as this room gets stuffy quite often.
I stared blankly at the ceiling for what felt like hours, twitching my fingers together, humming the song that had been stuck in my head for the past week. I was also feeling a touch home sick, oh yeah I forgot to mention that I was not in my room, I was in a motel.
My mum and I received a letter the other day telling us we had won a paid for vacation on the central coast, so we packed our bags and basically just drove for hours to the address. Mum needed a break after all, because her doctor just recently told her she was crazy, and needed medication, and she was so upset to hear it that she wanted to get away from town for a while. That's why she was so pleased when we received that letter.
Not only did another cold chill run down my spine, but I could also hear car alarms beeping, music blareing from the nearby club, glass bottles smashing. When It said 'vacation', I thought it meant a vacation away things like this. "Argh, that's it!" I said. I shifted my lower body to the edge of the small, yet comfortable bed, and slipped my feet into my pink fuzzy socks. I jumped out of bed and power walked over to the window, slammed it shut and sighed in relief.
My head tilted up towards the beautiful view of the waves washing onto the sandy shore, I could see a family of dolphins playing, and a sunrise was slowly appearing, full of colours I didn't even know existed. It was calming to know at least there was one good thing about this place.
I stayed there for a few minutes just admiring how pretty the scene was. Little did I know, there was someone staring at me from down the hallway... I began to feel tired again, so I made my way back to bed and rested my head on the fluffy pillow. As I was closing my eyes, I heard the floorboards creaking. It was faint and distant but I saw a person coming towards me. They had a gun in one hand and a bottle of something I was not familiar with in the other. I screamed for my mother, but she did not answer. The only option I had was to run for it. There was no doors around me, only the window that I had recently slammed shut. I saw the person coming closer, his footsteps became louder, and he was walking at a faster pace now.
The only thing I could think of to do, was to jump out the window. Run and don't stop. Which was exactly what I done. I tried to lift up the window, but it is stuck. So I had to smash it. *smash* the sound of glass shattering appeared louder than I planned and as I was climbing out the window, I noticed a large shadow at the door. It was the man. I jumped. It was higher than I had expected. Atleast half way down, the man had got to the window and started shouting "I'll kill you! You better run, because I will find you, and I will kill you."
Shivers ran down my spine and all throughout my veins at the horrible language he used. I was scared.
But I knew I couldn't think about it too much, I had to get out of there before he found his way out of the window.
I ran, as fast as I had ever run. Almost as fast as the vampires out of twilight. I didn't think it was possible to run like this, I mean I'm a pretty fit kind of person, but running in fear is a whole different level.
I heard more glass shattering from the distance. I looked around me, trying to find a safe place to stay in the mean time. And I noticed on my left there was a little door, made out of steel bars in a criss cross pattern. And honesty it was the only place I could see to hide that I may not be caught. I quickly nealed down on my two aching legs, and tried to find a way in. There was a little key next to the steal bars, but it did not fit.
At this point I nearly lost hope, I thought to myself yep, I'm done for. I could hear the footprints treading through the muddy footpath leading to where I was. I went around the side of the shed, and happened to find a hole. Even though I've been advised to never go near holes unless I know what's Down there, I had to escape. I took a deep breath and jumped. For what felt like forever, I am falling down this hole. This hole of mystery. I saw things, things I had never seen before. Before I knew it, I had landed so deep down that I could see a sky full of stars in the early morning. Without knowing what to do next, I brushed off my pyjamas, and pushed myself up off the ground with my hands. I looked around, it felt empty and plain. All of the things I saw, had disappeared, I felt alone...
That made me sad. Even though he could not see me, right at the top I could see a small head peeping down, looking straight through my soul, but yet he couldn't see me. It was like I disappeared, I yelled, but no one came. I couldn't get out. I couldn't even feel myself, I didn't know what I was feeling either.
I put my head between my legs and sighed. I cried to myself for a while. I just wanted my mum. I felt something furry brush past my fingertips. And quickly reverted my eyes up, but saw nothing. As I was looking around me, I couldn't see anything, but felt it yet again pass me on the other side. And looked again. A rabbit came out from the foggy distance, it had a pocket watch in his hand. I didn't even realise rabbits had hands? I mean I knew they had paws, but it didn't look like this rabbits hands. Then it disappeared in thin air. A few minutes later, a cat with big, colourful eyes flew over. Can cats fly?! I asked myself.
He handed me a small bottle with "drink me" written on a tag attached on the side, and a piece of cake that had "eat me" written on it.
He spoke.
"I understand you are Afraid my dear, but you don't have much time to be scared. You have one of two choices. If you drink this bottle of drink, you will escape from here within minutes, forget everything, but something bad will happen to you.
Or, you can make the choice to take one bite of this cake, but stay here forever, and become like me, or one of the others."
I was still shocked that when the cats lips moved words came out. But I had to make the choice. I didn't want to be stuck as an animal or even anything close to that forever. So I decided to take the drink.
Even though I would regret it later.
I climbed back into my room in relief that I finally escaped all that madness!
I Went back to sleep.
"Arghh!" I screamed. All of a sudden I was woken up from my awful nightmare by the cold chills coming from the part-way open window that I had locked when I went to bed.
I reached for the drink on my bedside table, but there seemed to be nothing in the glass. It was strange as it was full before I fell asleep.
I was about to jump up and close the frosty window, until I heard footsteps creaking the floor boards from down the hall. I scream for my mother, there was no reply. The masked man came towards me, and poured some water into my glass. I scratched my head in confusion. He lifted up his mask, slowly. I could physically feel the tension. It wasn't a man, it was a women, it was my mother. Remember how I told you at the beginning of the story that she had just been told she was crazy? Well, the next few moments passed and all sorts of questions raced through my mind. I was in the middle of the question "why does she have a gun?" Half way through me asking myself, she pointed the gun to my head and pulled the trigger. It wasn't a nightmare that I was woken from.
