"The sun and the moon have always been apart. It's been this way since the beginning of time. One appears at day, the other at night. But every day there is a moment in which they catch a glimpse of each other, and in that moment... The sun and the moon, though complete opposites, fall in love. They rise and fall, hoping to see each other once again, and they will stop at nothing for each other."

I frowned as I read what was written on the slip of paper.

"What is this..." I muttered, completely confused.

"This is supposed to be directions for decorating a cake, why did they give me this confusing crap?!" I asked, seething. As it was my first cake to do on my own, I had expected something slightly easier, at least something straightforward.

"Daemon, why'd you give me this one... It's too confusing for me..." I moaned, slumping over the counter.

"What are they trying to tell me...?" I wondered out loud, glancing at the paper again, rereading the words that had confused me and that still do.

"It just means to decorate the cake with a sun and a moon. Dummy." Daemon said, coming out of the kitchen, knocking me on the head. I rubbed my head, looking up at him, wincing.

"Ouch, that hurt, Daemon." I said and he rolled his eyes.

"Use your head, Selena. It's not that hard to figure out." He said, completely ignoring that he had hurt me.

"Hey, this is the first time I've gotten a description like this! Most of the time, the descriptions are simple and easy to understand. Why'd you give me this one?" I complained.

"Because it's your first time, and I know you can do an amazing job with it." He said, smiling gently, all signs of annoyance and violence gone in the blink of an eye. My heart fluttered slightly, and I sighed.

"Thanks, Daemon. I'll do my best." I said, getting up off the counter.

"Better get started, it's due in a week." He said, picking up the piece of paper and looking at the due date.

"A WEEK?!" I exclaimed, and my head was back on the counter.

"I swear, I'm going to file a report for abuse. I'm going to die trying to finish this cake." I muttered. I closed my eyes, hearing Daemon set the piece of paper down next to me.

"I'll finish it for your funeral." He joked and I bolted up.

"Hey!" I yelled, trying to slap him but he got out of the way. I sighed.

"I'm going to start, so don't bother me. I only have a week." I said, making myself get up and put on my little red apron. I scan the little bakery, imagining what it would be like to own it. That was my dream, actually, to become the owner, but since Daemon is the current owner, he says I have no chance.

I took out the flour, sugar, eggs, a bowl, and a spoon. Starting the base of the cake, I mixed in the ingredients. As I'm mixing, I glance over at Daemon, who's delicately piping out little embellishments onto a cupcake. My eyes widened. I'm amazed as always by his precision and sense for how to perfectly decorate a cake, cupcake, or cookie, down to the last sprinkle.

I see him breath out and smile. He acts mean, but he's actually really nice. I watch him carefully transport the cupcake to a box. He closes it carefully, making sure not to damage the top. He's the best we have here, but soon I'm going to be the best. After I go to culinary school, Daemon will see that I am fit to be the owner.

The bell at the counter rang, the sound reverberating through the bakery. I rushed to the counter, as I heard the customer call out.

"Hello?" I hear "Anyone here?" I arrived at the counter, plastering on a smile.

"Yes, hello! Welcome to Incredible Edibles, how may I help you..." I said, my voice dying at the end, as I stared at the customer. He had a small smirk on his face, and his eyes were mesmerizing. I don't know what happened, but in that one moment, it felt like all time had stopped for us.
