Chapter 5

Exactly 24 hours left until departure.

Her feet made contact with the sturdy, dark floor below her. The sensation of a solid ground below her felt new to her; even though it wasn't too long before when she was still alive. A powerful surge of nostalgia overwhelmed her soul. She looked around at the scene; she saw the beautiful green grass, tall trees, and lights from the poles lined on the side of the road. She looked around and found a sign that said, "Redwater Road," and looked to her right; she saw the usual large lake that was as still as the air. Why am I here? she wondered to herself. She thought she'd be in the hospital, or her home, or somewhere that had a significance to her life or death. That was just a regular road; there was nothing important about it. She lifted up her left foot and began walking down the street; but she couldn't move after the first step. A wave of thoughts and memories rushed back to her that she forgot before. So this is how it was for Ellie, Cyara thought to herself. She remembered what happened; she remembered her last moments of consciousness.

Watson Road. The red car. Although those were the only two things she remembered, she made sure to not forget them, in case they were ever important to her. She glanced at her wrist, and it read "11:01," the exact time she died. Did the figure go back in time to bring me here at 11:01? she wondered. Or was that whole meeting, seeing Ellie, everything done in less than a minute? Continuing to collect her memories, Cyara realized she had never owned a watch, and she was obviously clueless to why she had one on. Cyara dug through her memories before arriving to the one she had two weeks ago at her job.

Her co-worker, Sean, was going on about how his little sister's birthday was that very day, and how he got her an amazing present that she loved. He then asked, "When is your birthday, Cyara?"

"June 17," she responded, and he promised her that he'd get her an awesome gift. The next day, he told her that he was so excited that he already got her gift, telling her it would be something that would prevent her from being late to work all the time; one of her specialties was being tardy. All the girl did then was nod and smile, not even thinking about what the mysterious present could possibly be.

Cyara stared at the watch and struggled with the lock, finally getting the complicated device off of her arm. She peered at the other side of the watch; the same brand symbol that was on Sean's watch was on hers.

"So, I went to work, did what I needed, and he gave me this watch?" she asked herself, sure that was the answer. She put it back on, since it could easily come in handy. "Wow, I have to learn practically everything myself." she sighed and put her hands in her pockets.

It was aggravating that she couldn't remember the several hours of June 16, since she did not live through it. Although what happened was pretty evident when she thought about it, she just wanted to know every detail; she didn't want to have to use logic for it.

She stepped onto the grass to begin walking home, a squishing noise unmissable under her feet. The grass was soaking wet, and she recalled that there was a heavy storm earlier that day. It was hot as well, making the air humid and muggy; she wanted to get home as soon as she could.

However, her legs were wobbly and her eyelids were forcefully moving down, her brain telling her to go to sleep; she didn't think she'd be so tired after work. It was probably the party, Cyara concluded.

Wait a second....

She jerked her head behind her and found the local store in view. That had to mean that she was transported to the place she would have been at that time, if she didn't die. The party was supposed to be far away from there. Did she not meet Asra there? Was she kept at work for so long?
