One Day At A Time (Sam and Dean on Shamchat)

This is a conversation between Brain damage!Dean and yourself, Sam Winchester (Any AU).

Brain damage!Dean: *slowly opens his eyes, gazing lazily at the hospital fan as it spins before you realize that he seems to have focused his eyes on you for the first time in the month since his accident on a job*

Sam Winchester (Any AU): *watching you, not really hoping for anything anymore but too stubborn to give up* *sees you focus on him and sits up suddenly* *quietly*Dean?

Brain damage!Dean: *blinks slowly, then offers a lopsided smile* S'mmy...

Sam Winchester (Any AU): *smiles weakly* *choked* Hey, man.

Brain damage!Dean: S'mmy... *repeats himself, like he's trying to make sure... or like he can't find any other words, you can't tell*

Sam Winchester (Any AU): Yeah...yeah, Dean, it's me. *puts his hand on your arm* How ya feeling?

Brain damage!Dean: *blinks slowly at you, frowning as he sees the worry lines creased on your face* S'mmy s-sad...?

Sam Winchester (Any AU): *starting to tear up* No, man...I'm happy to see you again. I'm fine, I promise.

Brain damage!Dean: Cryin'. S'mmy... *struggling for words* S'mmy cryin'.

Sam Winchester (Any AU): *starting to actually cry* I know I'm crying. It's okay, really...I-I'm just glad you're talkin' to me.

Brain damage!Dean: *struggles to reach up and wipe your tears away, but he can't seem to make his arm move like he wants it to and he lets out a frustrated grunt*

Sam Winchester (Any AU): *guesses what you want and wipes his face, smiling shakily again* *pats your arm*Take it easy, you don't have to do everything at once.

Brain damage!Dean: Wh... wh' ha-happened? S'mmy... S'mmy... sad. Wh-why...?

Sam Winchester (Any AU): *pained* You got hurt...real bad. About a month ago. We were in Salt Lake, chasing down a couple of demons, and one of them got you...I-I couldn't get there in time, Dean, I'm sorry...

Brain damage!Dean: Can' 'member... Can'... can' move right. Words... *fumbles, getting frustrated* .../wrong./

Sam Winchester (Any AU): Calm down, it's okay, Dean...it-it was a head injury, so you've got..you've got some damage up there. That's gonna make it harder to talk, and move, things like that. But you're gonna be okay. We'll get through this, alright? *moves and takes your hand, smiling weakly again and still teary*

Brain damage!Dean: *tries to squeeze your hand but can't coordinate his muscles well enough* D-don'... S'mmy sad. No sad.

Sam Winchester (Any AU): *feels you trying anyway and lets out a happy little laugh* I'm not sad. I've got my brother back, and that's enough for me.

Brain damage!Dean: *it takes him a while, but he manages to smile back* B-brother... 's D'n. Me. S'mmy... D'n.

Sam Winchester (Any AU): Yeah...yeah, that's you. Dean. *wipes his face again and sighs* Um...are you hungry? Do you want me to get you anything?

Brain damage!Dean: S'mmy. *resolved, he's not sure of much, but he's sure of that, and he's not about to let you go*

Sam Winchester (Any AU): *smiles* Okay. I won't go anywhere.
