I dragged my hand through my hair for the thousandth time today, messing up my quiff even more than before. This just wasn't logical.

There was no way a layer of ice could exist at the bottom of the ocean floor.

But there were the stats rolling in from our satellites, telling us it was at least two miles thick in some places. The ice simply shouldn't have been possible, what with the currents and extreme pressure; not to mention, ice doesn't form in chunks that large when attached to the ocean floor.

"Anchor ice," or ice attached to the ground of a body of water, does exist, but usually in both: 1. fast-moving rivers during cold spells; and 2. the juncture where the river meets the sea, when the seawater is below the freezing point of the river. Anchor ice also forms in lakes when the water level is low (this mostly occurring in Canada). Therefore, it's bizarre it would occur in such a large chunk on the bottom of the middle of the ocean. Either it's an anomaly that we don't know enough about to explain, or there's ... something else at play.

I mean, I might be a scientist, but that doesn't mean I can't imagine other ways for the world to work. Specifically, I'm a marine biologist and engineer, so I study the oceans and how its properties, uses of material, etc., can be used on land. But I've always wondered if there's some secret universe out there, doing things differently than us, whether it be right below our feet, or millions of lightyears into the stars.

But that was just nonsense. There were no other universes or societies, and there was a perfectly logical explanation for why the bottom of the ocean was coated with ice.

There had to be.

So. Welcome.

This is just a teaser for what's to come. I'm really really excited about this story!

Updating in early August 2016: I'm still writing and working on this; I want to have the majority done before I post anything just so I don't fall behind. Hopefully, new stuff will be out before the end of summer, but no promises :P
