Margaret was born in Middleton, England, in 1555 of Protestant parents.
She was an ordinary young woman blessed with good looks, wit and merriment. Her charming personality attracted John Clitherow, a rich gentleman.
They got married and had 2 children, a few years later, Margaret turned her back on the Protestant Religion and entered the Catholic Church
During this time, Catholics were not allowed to practice their religion in England and Catholic priests who were caught doing their work were arrested and imprisoned.
What Margaret did was hide in their home those priests who are hiding from authorities. For this, Margaret was arrested and thrown into prison.
While in prison, the authorities tried every means to make her deny her catholic faith but they did not succeed.
Finally, the authorities decided to put her to death.
When she learned of the decision of the authorities, she said these words to a friend "The sheriffs have said that I am going to die this Friday and I feel weakness of my flesh which is troubled at this news, but my spirit rejoices greatly, for the Love Of God, pray for me and ask all good people to do likewise"Such words can only come from a holy woman who has found a new life in Jesus
Her feast day is on March 26
