Chapter 15 - Santana’s Pov
“You don’t have to be afraid.” Police man says, wiping my cheek with his thump. “I’m sure she will be fine.”
I nod and pretend that’s why I’m crying.
I’m not afraid Lillian won’t be ok, I’m afraid you’ll know who I am- who my father is.
He nods and starts asking me simply easy to answer questions.
“Are you and her friends?”
“Well…no. I mean, well I don’t know her that well.” I answer quickly, tripping over my words a little.
He nods and writes it down on his little pad. “Is she bullied?”
I pause. Is Lauren’s wise cracks considered bulling?
No. She said she was only joking, that Lillian never took it to heart.
Yes. Of course teasing is bulling.
“I don’t know.” I answer quietly. He stares in my eyes for a moment. For a second I swear he knows I’m lying, but his blue eyes dart back down to his pad as he scribbles.
Maybe he if he thinks I don’t know anything he’ll leave me alone. I don’t want to be questioned. I don’t want to be near him.
“Is there any reason as to why she might want to hurt herself that you know of?”
I shake my head. “No.” Not unless you mean how her mom treats her like she’s shit or how her Dad ignores her, or how she isn’t treated like a teenager, instead like a child, unless those don’t count then, no.
He nods. “Well…That’s all I guess.” He helps me stand up. “Is there anyone here with you?”
“Yeah…m-y D-ad.” I stutter out. He nods.
“Well, was he here when it happened I’d like to-“
“NO!” I say a bit too fast. He eyes me but backs off.
I knock on Mrs. Griffin’s door again, lighter this time with trembling hands.
“He wasn’t here. I can assure you…”
“Dammit Santana I said-“ He pauses when he sees police man and wipes the hair out of his face.
“Dad…This is Deputy Marshall…” I start. Dad makes eye contact with police man who is wearing a stern look. I can see the angry start to form on his face. He thinks I rat him out.
“Lil-lian is in the hospital.” I talk slowly. He sighs.
“Is she alright?” His voice is dripping with fake concern. I shrug.
“She left a little while ago. How would I know?”
Dad nods and excuses himself to go change.
I feel the tears start in my eyes again. This time not because I am scared. No scratch that. I am scared, just not for dad.
What if Lillian isn’t alright?
What if she hurt herself really badly?
“What did you say your name is?” Police man asks giving me a napkin I didn’t ask for.
“I-it’s San-sa- Santana D-avid” I mutter out through my tears.
He gives me a thoughtful look. “Uh. And what about your father? What’s his name?”
“…” Why? “Th-omas D-avid.”
“Oh! He…just looks really familiar is all…”
