- - - A/N Hey guys. Sorry I don't know how to add the different parts of a chapter so they're kinda short. I hope you guys don't hate them. I don't wanna just continue like that but I guess I kinda have too unless someone wants to let me know I would greatly appreciate it. Enjoy! - - -
"I finally came back," I said. I hugged him as tightly as I could. I've missed him a ton over the past couple of years.
"I take it you haven't seen Sasuke," he said quietly. I pulled away and shook my head. "He went with Orochimaru, to gain strength and power, so he could come after me and kill me." he continued as he stared intensely at me.
"Why would he want to kill you Itachi?" I asked. I was dreading this question, and his answer. I looked up at him hoping that he would just laugh and tell me he was joking.
"I hope that's not really what you expect. You know it's wrong," Mai said in my head as I tried to push her away.
"I killed our entire clan," he said in a monotone voice. "All of them, except Sasuke. I need him alive so he can avenge our clan and end my life," he said as if he never thought twice about it. As if it were his goal for the future to have Sasuke kill him. I was shocked. Why would Itachi do such a thing.
"I know there's a reason," I said with desperation in my voice. "I know you couldn't have killed them just because you wanted to."
"I did it to test my strength," he said in a voice so calm but at the same time so sad I could tell he was lying.
"You're lying," I said accusingly. He shook his head trying to convince me. "You're lying," I said in a more firm voice. "I know you Itachi and I know you wouldn't kill you entire clan, including your own family just so you could "test your strength'." I said using air quotes. He sighed deeply. He knew that I won.
"You're right," he said. "I did it because the Hokage ordered me to." Then he told me the whole story. Everything. Down to the last detail. When he was finished I looked up at him with eyes so sad I could tell he thought I was going to flee. I just hugged him. He looked down at me in shock again. "You're not running away?" He asked me his voice confused and surprised.
"Nope," I said as I shook my head against his chest. I wasn't exactly very tall.
"Well then come on," he said nudging me. "I'll take you to the Akatsuki. You can train there and stay with us," he said happily. "As long as Pein says it's ok," he added quietly. I looked up at him and laughed. he just smiled down at me. I haven't seen him smile in such a long time. It made me happy to see him happy again.
