Luke's POV //

When I turned around I saw Calum wandering aimlessly with his hands shoved into his pockets.
(SHAMELESS REFERENCE TO MY USERNAME!!)

I don't think he even knew I was looking at him because he was so preoccupied by... well, nothing. I sighed to myself and walked towards him.

"Calum. Let's go home."

He looked up at me like a lost puppy.

"Are you done thinking?"

I smirked. "Yeah, for now."

When we got back into the car, I put the music on myself to convince him that nothing was wrong and I was myself like I always have been. I saw him smile when I did.

"Luke..."

"Hmm?"

"What were you thinking about so intently that you had to come all the way out here? I mean, I'm pretty good at thinking in my own bedroom."

I just laughed and asked him if he wanted coffee as I pulled into a drive through. He said yes.

When I paid and handed him his drink, our fingers touched and I had to stop myself from becoming caught up in the moment. Is it even possible to be caught up in the heat of things when the other person isn't feeling the heat? This had all become extremely confusing extremely fast.

We got back home and I told Calum I was tired from getting up so early and wanted to go back to bed. He didn't say anything more than a weak "okay."

I locked the door behind me and collapsed onto my bed as I felt my breathing start to get heavy. I squeezed my eyes shut in hopes that it would block out everything and everyone around me. I wanted to block out the life I had made for myself -- it wasn't helping my situation anymore.

Finally, I let myself cry. Quietly.

Although it may not have been quiet enough, because after a while I heard whispers and feet shuffling outside my bedroom door. I wiped my face and pulled the door open quickly.

"What?"

It didn't come out like it was supposed to. It started off as a yell but at the end, my voice cracked.

Calum was standing there staring at me. I stared back for a moment and then shut the door again.

I didn't lock it, but no one even tried to open it.
