"I first saw your papa during the battle of Trost. He had just sealed the hole in Trost," I said.
"Daddy, how did Papa seal the hole?" asked Hunter.
"Your papa was a titan shifter. He could turn into a big fifteen meter titan with muscles as big as houses. He used those big muscles and his determination to carry a boulder as tall as him and used it to seal the hole in the wall. I had killed two titans that were about to him and your aunt and uncle. I remember thinking that he was the most beautiful human I ever saw, even with the bruises on his face from being half fused to the inside of his titan's neck."
"What did Papa's human form look like?"
"He had brown hair like yours. He had tan skin like yours. And he had the most beautiful eyes. They were green with a little blue in them just like yours."
"We're his muscles as big in his human form and they were on his titan form?" asked his son.
"No. Your papa was on the thinner side, but he was strong and brave. He was great at hand to hand combat. He was so determined to beat Aunt Mikasa."
"Did he?"
"After a million tries. He beat her because of his sheer willpower."
She said, "Boy can I tell you a

"After the raid of Stohess, Aunt Mikasa came to my office."
"You had your own office!?"
"Yeah. I was the captain of the Scout Regiment."
"You mean the people that fought the titans?"
"Yeah. Your papa was a member of my squad."
"But wasn't papa a titan?"
"No! He was human! He was a human being with an extraordinary power! A power he used for the sake of humanity! Don't let anyone tell you different!"
"I won't!" Hunter was shaking a little. I picked him up and held him in my lap. He stopped shaking.
I continued with the story. "Aunt Mikasa came to my office to talk to me. She said to me, 'Captain, Eren told me that after he fought the Female Titan that he thought it would be okay if he died. You might just see him as a weapon, but I don't. I'm afraid that he will do something stupid. Please talk to him or something! He trusts you!' She started to cry. It was one of the only times that I saw her show any emotion. I told her that I would talk to him."
"Did Aunt Mikasa show less emotion than you?"
"No. At least I don't think so. The only people I let myself smile or cry in front of are the people I really love."
"Who do you laugh in front of?"
"I laugh in front of you. I used to laugh and cry in front of your papa. When I talked to him that time, I cried. Your papa was in his room, sitting curled up on his bed. I said, 'Ackerman told me that you felt that it would be okay if you died.' Your papa just curled up into an even smaller ball. It was so strange to see him like this. He was usually had fire in those eyes. I walked over to the bed and sat down. 'Eren, please talk to me.' He still didn't answer. I snapped. 'Eren! Please! I don't ever want you to feel that way! It wouldn't be okay if you died!'"
"What did Papa say to that?"
"He just looked at me and said, 'Do you really believe that? If I weren't alive, hundreds of scouts wouldn't have died during the fifty seventh expedition, and one hundred people wouldn't have died during the raid.'"
"And I said, 'If you weren't alive, Wall Rose would be lost, and the Female Titan would have killed hundreds, maybe thousands, of people would have died.' And I said in a quieter voice,'I wouldn't be okay if you died.'"
"And your papa looked at me and said,'Do you mean that?' I told him I did. He said that he wouldn't be okay if died either."

"Did you get married when the war was over?"

"Five years after your papa joined the Scout Regiment, we came back from a mission. Your papa was twenty and I was twenty six. The mission had ended badly, with over one hundred fifty casualties and over two hundred wounded. I realized that by the time the war was over, one of us may be dead. I already knew that, but it really hit me that time. So I said to him,'Let's get married this week. Your father just looked at me. He smiled softly and nodded."

"Your papa and I decided that we wanted children a few years after we married. We decided to use a surrogate mother."
"What's surrogate mother?"

"I had a sister?"
"She died a little bit after she was born."
"What was her name?"
"Her name was Diana."

"A week after the final battle with the titans, your papa died from a disease," I lied.

This is what really happened.
The nobles were calling Eren a threat, a monster. They called for his execution.
Eren heard.
He asked me to kill him after the Titans were dead.
I refused.
He said that he would be tortured and experimented on. He said that he wanted to die as a human, not as a monster.
I agreed.
He smiled and said,"Thank you."
I stabbed him his chest. His blood stained his cloak red.
I fell to my knees.
He was still breathing.
He said,"I love you." It was the first time that one of us said it.
I said,"I love you." I said it to his corpse.
One month later, the nobles built a memorial for the soldiers in the war. There is a picture of Eren in the front hall.
