Chapter 3
10 years later
Link's POV"Link? Link, I need to talk to you." I opened my eyes as someone shook me. I sat up and looked right into Sunny's beautiful green eyes. My lips were inches from hers as she stared at me. I stared back, tucking a strand of her glossy brown hair behind her ear. Sunshine the Killer. I wouldn't laugh if I were you. She would easily kick anyone's ass. That's what happens when your parents are Jeff and Jess the Killers. Sunny and I have been friends ever since she was born. She annoyed me at times, but she was my best friend. And I loved her.
"What's wrong?" I said softly. I knew the time without looking at the clock. 2:57 am. She has always woken me up at this time for some reason.
"I need to tell you something. Something I have hidden for 10 years." She whispered, looking at the floor. My eyes widened.
"What is it? Sunny, you're scaring me." I said gently. She looked up, her eyes filling with tears.
"I love you. I have loved you for 10 years. And i will love you for more. I have always believed in soulmates. You are mine." She cried. I blinked in surprise. She loved me?!
"Please don't cry. I hate it when you cry. I have something to tell you too." I whispered, wiping away her tears. She looked up at me confused. I leant forward to whisper into her ear.
" You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are grey. You never know, dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away." I sang softly. She giggled, before bursting into tears. I pulled her into a hug as she cried against my chest. I stroked her soft hair. I loved her.
"Its my 16th birthday today. Will you go on a date with me?" I asked gently. Her green eyes, wet from tears, stared into my purple ones.
"Of course i will." She hugged me again, but this time I pushed her away. I brushed my lips gently across hers. She smiled. Kissing Sunshine was a dream come true. I pulled away to see Mum sitting on the bed. She was grinning. I smiled back.
"I ship it." She said, leaping around the bed. I laughed and Sunny gave me a confused look. She looked so cute. Her lips puckered and she tilted her head to the side, her eyes confused. She was still flushed from the kiss.
"My mum is here." I said simply. Sunshine frowned before grinning.
"That's cute. Hey, Link's mum!" She said happily. Mum smiled at her lovingly.
"Tell her that I want her to be my future daughter-in-law." She said, leaping around the room. I groaned. This was going to be embarrasing...
"She wants you as a future daughter-in-law." I said, blushing. Her eyes lit up as she blushed. As she was about to reply, i heard raised voices.
"Let me see him! I have a right!" Someone yelled. I recognised that voice.
"You have no rights. You will never meet my son. Not after killing her mother!" Dad yelled. Sunny stared at me. She could hear it faintly, but not as well as me. Super hearing remember? I stood up, charging out of the room as Sunny called for me to stop. But i didn't. I ran down the stairs, before bursting out the front doors. Dad, Slendy and Jeff were standing there. And so was HE. My grandfather. Zalgo. He turned to me, his eyes softening.
"You look like her. Like Midnight." He said softly. Hissing, Mum jumped onto my shoulders. I looked at her. She was glaring at Zalgo, her expression filled with hatred with a hint of sadness. I gasped as I felt a hand on my shoulder. A woman was standing there, her black hair fluttering down her back, her green eyes fixed on Zalgo. There was a hint of Mum in her features, the way she stood proudly, her long black hair flowing in the wind. Then I realized who it was. Raven. My Grandmother. Her eyes were sad as she watched Zalgo. He stared back. Dad turned around and saw us. All of us.
"Midnight?" He whispered. I folded my arms and glared at Zalgo, ignoring Dad.
"What are you doing here? How dare you show your face around us!" I yelled. Zalgo watched me curiously. Then he smirked. And I lost it. Darting forward, I brushed Mum off of my shoulder and lunged at Zalgo. My hands snaked around his neck as he flew backwards. I pinned him down, tightening my hold around his neck. I glared at him furiously.
"You killed my mum. So now, I'm killing you!" I hissed. A hand gently touched my own. Looking up, i saw Dad standing over me. He gently pulled me away. But I fought back.
"Why are you stopping me? For years, i have been waking up, screaming from nightmares about him killing her. Don't pretend. We all want him dead." I shouted angrily.
"I don't." Said Zalgo. I hissed at him.
"Shut it. But Link, we need him. There was reason why he came and we need to hear what he has to say." Dad said gently. I sighed. I hated it when Dad was right. And he was right the majority of the time. I felt a small hand slip into my own. It was warm but callused from years of training. Turning, I saw Sunshine staring at me, her expression pleading.
"He isn't worth it Link. Just hear him out." She whispered, her tone soothing. I nodded at her. She sighed with relief, her hand squeezing mine gently.
"Ok then, spit it out. What have you got to say?" I spat angrily. He grinned.
"Opal, you can come out now." He called into the trees. A young woman appeared. She had long, curly, blonde hair and one purple eye. But her entire eye was purple. Her other eye was missing, just an empty black socket. Blood still dripped from the dark, gaping abyss. The way the blood slipped down her face, made her look creepily like Dad. Her lips were also as red as blood. A small Z was carved into her cheek. I growled.
"Opal. Your hair is different." Jeff said thickly. She looked at him sadly.
"Yes. I changed it after Midnight..." She choked up, her eyes filled with tears. I felt a hand on my shoulder so i looked up. Slender was standing there.
"I want to test something. Go and touch Opal's hand. See if you can see her memories. You might see more about your mother." He muttered to me. I nodded. Straight away. I walked over to her, holding my hand out. She looked at me confused. "I want to try something. Will you give me your hand please?" I asked softly. Shaking slightly, she placed her soft hand into my rough one. In unision, we closed our eye/s. Images flashed through my head.
"Think about Mum. About Midnight." I said gently. The first scene I saw was in a hospital. Opal was screaming, clearly giving birth. All of a sudden, it skipped slightly. Opal was lying back, a small bundle in her arms. It was a little girl, with big purple eyes and little tufts of blonde hair. I gasped. Mum? The next scene was Opal walking down the road, the little girl wrapped in her arms. She knocked on someone's front door. A young woman opened it, her black hair flowing down her back, her green eyes curious. She smiled at her old friend. But Opal didn't return the smile.
"Raven. Zalgo is after me. Our daughter too. Please, take her in, raise her as your own. I dont know what else to do." Opal whimpered softly. Raven's smile faded as she looked at the little girl. She was fast asleep, her blonde hair shoulder length.
"I will have to speak to Rowen. I will talk him into it. What's her name?" Raven said softly.
"Bellatrix." Opal said, giving her daughter one last desperate kiss.
"I meant her real name. I know that you know." Raven said.
"Midnight. Hell cat shapeshifter." She whispered, passing little Midnight to Raven. She smiled, before running out of the door and disappearing with the wind. Raven just smiled at her new daughter. Opal never said goodbye. She thought it was too final.
As time went on, it was clear that Opal was still around. She watched from afar as her daughter became sadder. Within a year, her soft blonde hair had gone pitch black. She knew that there was someone missing from her life, she just couldn't work out who. I was shocked, I thought mum had natural black hair. Turns out Opal has been watching mum all her life. The last memories were of Jeff climbing through her window after mum had killed her family, and of Mum when she shifted for the first time. I could feel how proud Opal was of her daughter.Opal let go of my hand.
"When are you going to tell Mum?" I blurted out suddenly. Opal sighed and turned away.
"I guess now is probably the time. No time like the present." She muttered.A/N i love you my cupcakes!
So, Midnight has been lied to her entire life. How would you feel if you found out that Zalgo and Opal were your real parents?
Thank you butterfly123199 for creating Sunshine the Killer. The time 2:57 is quite important to me actually because 5 is my favourite number, 7 is ThatKidWithAComputer's lucky number (I think) and I think 2 is bluebutterflyshona's favourite number. I am probably wrong. Please go and check them out because they are amazing cupcakes!
