Chapter 107

P.O.V/ Kim Stevens:

Four months later..

Kyle and I went to Jason and Jane's house the next day for Nicole and Eric's party. The party was going great, and everyone was having fun, but something strange did happen. Alex was missing, Dana freaked out, and everyone searched the house, but she was nowhere to be found. Dana was holding Avery, who was a year old. She turned two on December 18th. She and Alex are a year and ten months apart. Avery started teleporting Dana, and we followed them to Holbrook Cemetery at 543 North Broadway. It's not far from our houses and the high school. We found Alex standing at Xander's grave, staring at a black crow cawing as it sat on the double headstone. This put chills down our spines right after Shana had a bad feeling come over her as Alex stared at the crow. The feeling of death and destruction is like the premonition she had years ago. One of the Stadium where Heather was vanquished after trying to open the portal to the unknown to let the demons come out and feed off everyone in town. Even after it was over, Shana could still feel that bad feeling inside of her.. the feeling that something was coming and we were not gonna be able to stop.. that we all might not make it. Shana said she could sense her own death in the future, but she couldn't tell when. We thought it was because of what Heather was planning to do, but now, that feeling is back five years later. Something awaits us in the future. something that will cause death and destruction... Today is Monday, April 15th, 1996; it's been four months since Nicole and Eric's party. On November 20th, my three-month maternity leave from work started. I had Carly on January 23rd, 1996. It was the best day of my life, and Kyle and I were so excited. I went into labor the day before at Noon and was in labor for thirteen hours. Carly was born at 3:30 am. I was so exhausted but happy to finally hold her in my arms. She was so small.. she weighed seven pounds and six ounces. My Maternity leave was over on February 12th, and I went back to work. Carly is now two months old. I've been breastfeeding her. You are supposed to for six months of the baby's life or until it won't anymore. It's painful at times because your breasts are full of milk and can be tender, but it's definitely worth it. I bought a breast pump while I was still pregnant, and I've pumped milk into bottles to store in the fridge. Those are mostly for Kyle and his Mom, Renee, to feed her if I'm not home. Renee has retired from work early because of a back injury. She's 47 and had to have back surgery a couple of years ago. The injury happened after she had Kyle. She was driving home from work late at night and was hit by a drunk driver. So she watches Carly during the day while Kyle and I work. Then, when I get off work, I come home, and Renee leaves for the rest of the day. Mom can't watch Carly much because of work, but if she's off, she watches Carly to give Renee a break. We've offered to pay Renee to watch Carly, but she refuses nicely, saying she loves spending time with her granddaughter. I feel like my life is more complete now that Carly is here. I can't believe how fast she's grown in two months. She looks just like me. Her eyes are hazel green like mine, and she has my facial features and Kyle's nose. Some nights were a little rough because of the feeding, and sometimes babies don't sleep through the night when they are that little, but Carly has finally started sleeping through the night. She wakes up once or twice for a feeding or a diaper change, then goes back to sleep. All the kids love her. Sam and Riley turned a year old on February 23rd, and Dani will be a year old in May. They are very gentle with her when they visit and give her kisses on the head. Dani loves to sit on the couch and hold her while someone keeps Carly's head up. She can only hold her head up when lying on her stomach. I'm at work in the office and getting ready to go down to the café for my lunch break with K.J. and Dakota. I'm typing on the keyboard, finishing up a document. I type numbers into the calculator and then type the numbers on the keyboard. I save it, then close it. I look at the small picture frame on my desk to the left. It's a picture of me holding Carly as Kyle stands beside me with his right hand on my shoulder. I smile at the picture; I love my little family. I hear footsteps and look up at K.J. and Dakota standing there. They look at the picture with smiles. Dakota said, " She's so beautiful." I get up from my chair, pushing it in. We walk across the office and pass Nancy's office, but the door is closed. We walk down the stairs and out the front doors of the office. As we walk down the sidewalk, K.J. says, " How long did it take you to lose the baby weight?" I said, " I've lost all of it and gotten back to my normal weight." K.J. said, " I've heard some women have trouble losing weight after having a baby." I said, " It takes months to go away, but if you work out and eat somewhat right, you will lose the weight." it is hard for some women. I've always been very active with working out, and the missions I go out on keep me in shape. So, after having Carly, I went back out on missions and began working out when I could, and I lost the weight. I do have some stretch marks, though, but that's okay. It's so worth it to have them. We stop at the crosswalk. Dakota pushes the button, and the traffic comes to a slow stop. We walk across the café courtyard and find a table in the middle. We sit down and talk while we wait for the waitress. Dakota said, "How are Kat and Holly?" I said, " They're good; Jenny and Cheyenne are doing great." K.J. said, " They are both so cute and tiny." Kat had Jenny on April 1st, and Holly had Cheyenne on April 10th. Jenny is two weeks old, and Cheyenne is only five days old. The waitress asks, " What can I get you?". Dakota said, " I'll have the grilled Chicken salad with a side of ranch, a small bag of Doritos, and a can of Mountain Dew." K.J. said, " I'll have the Chef Salad with a side of ranch, a small bag of plain chips and a can of Dr. Pepper." I said, " I'll also have the grilled Chicken salad with a side of ranch, a small bag of cool ranch Doritos, and a can of Wild Cherry Pepsi." The waitress writes that down on the small pad of paper then says with a smile " I'll have that out here in a few minutes." We hand her the menus. She takes them and walks across the courtyard, passing by Kelly, who is typing on her laptop. She picks up her can of Dr. Pepper and takes a drink. Dakota said to me with a smile," So are you excited for your birthday?". I smiled. " Yes.. Kyle and I are going out to dinner on my birthday with Terri, Don, Jesse, Brandon, Bryce, and Tanya at The Olive Garden". K.J. said, " I love that restaurant. It's delicious". I said, " Are you guys still coming to the party at Edgewood Park for Brandon and me?" Dakota said, " Saturday?" I shook my head. Yes. Dakota smiled, " We'll be there." K.J. said, " It's sweet that you and Brandon share the same birthday." I said, " He calls me his birthday twin." Dakota said, " I can't believe he's gonna be sixteen." I said, " I can't believe I'm almost thirty." Dakota said as she giggles " I'm so close.. a few more months". K.J. said, " I'm right behind you guys." Dakota said, " You aren't even greying yet." K.J. said with a grin, " Nope." I said, " I have some you just can't see it because of the color of my hair." Dakota said playfully, " You lucky bitch". We giggle, and Dakota runs her fingers through her hair. She said, " It's wisdom glitter." She winked at us, and we continued giggling. The waitress brought out the food we ate and continued talking. A little while later, we finished lunch. That's when I see Detective Bridges walking this way, and she looks pissed. She tosses a picture on the table in front of me. I looked at it, and it was a picture of Kyle and Terri kissing. I feel something inside me snap as I stare down at the picture, not believing what I see. Detective Bridges said with an attitude, " Care to explain that to me?" I looked up at her and said with an attitude, " Excuse me?" She said, " You know I knew there was something else going on.. looks like your husband isn't the man you know and Terri isn't your friend.. isn't she thirteen years his senior? Kind of taboo if you ask me.. or do the three of you... you know, have a ménage à trois if you catch my drift?" she says with a smirk. I stand up. She stares down at me with her arms crossed. Then She says, " I believe you were the one who blew up the car to get back at them.. what's the matter afraid that a beautiful and attractive older woman like Terri can give your husband something you can't??" I lose it as my fuze blows, I said " You know what you can go fuck yourself!!!" Detective Bridges said with sarcasm " Save it.. you have the right to remain silent.. anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law.. If you need an attorney, one will be appointed for you. do you understand these rights I've read you?" I rolled my eyes as she made me turn around, putting my hands behind my back. Dakota said, " She didn't do anything!" K.J. said. " Let her go!" She puts the handcuffs on my wrists, then she snatches the picture off the table and walks me across the courtyard. As everyone stares, I look over at Kelly, giggling evilly. She blows me a kiss, and I give her a go-to-hell look. Detective Bridges walks to the crosswalk and pushes the button. As we stand there, I say with an attitude, " You're making a mistake. I didn't try to kill anyone". She said with an attitude, " I don't believe anything you or the others say. if you ask me, I think you all have something to do with Hobbs.. we discovered his body yesterday morning behind the rec center at Edgewood Park. Behind the building was a hill leading down to the creek with overgrown woods. He had been down there for six months badly decomposed". I felt my heart sink as she said that Kelly did dump the body and that it was near our houses. She walks me across the street to the parking lot next to my office. We walked past my car to the right of her 1996 black Chevy Impala SS. She walks to the back door behind the passenger seat and opens the door. She puts her hand on my right shoulder and pushes me down to the seat. I move my legs behind the passenger seat as she closes the door. She walks around the back of the chair. I exhaled in frustration; I said to myself with sarcasm, " This is just great." She opened the driver's door and got in the seat she closed the door. She opens her laptop, which is attached to a stand in front of the dashboard. She types on the keyboard and looks at the screen. I can't see what she's looking at, but I know she's running my name. She said, " You've been arrested twice as a teenager.. quite the troublemaker". I roll my eyes; she starts the car and backs out of the parking spot, then pulls out of the side parking lot, turning right and driving by the café. I spot Dakota and K.J. standing in the courtyard of the café. Dakota is calling someone to tell them I've been arrested. She drove me to the Knox County Sheriff's office next to the jail and the detention facility. She parks the car in the back parking lot and shuts it off. She gets out of the car walking around to the back door. She opens the door, and I step out. She takes my right arm, walking me across the parking lot to a backdoor. As she walks up with me, the door makes a buzzing sound and then opens. We walk in, and she leads me to the holding cells down to the last one. She removes the handcuffs as a cop unlocks the cell door. He pulls the door open, and I walk in. I turn around, standing in the middle of the cell. Detective Bridges says with a smirk, " Sit tight." She and the cop walk away down the hallway to the left and out a door. I hear a cough and look over at an older white man in the cell next to me. His hair is white, and so is his beard. It's long, like Santa Claus. He is dressed like a biker. He walks to the sidebars next to my cell. He is looking me up and down with a grin. With a country accent, he said, " Well, aren't you in the wrong place." The man in the cell beside him is an older black man who smells like booze. I can smell him all the way over here. The older black male said, " Hey, beautiful." he winked at me. The white man turned around and said to him with an attitude, " Leave the kid alone." The older black man said with an attitude, " I can say what I want.. and man, I love to be between those legs". He cackles; the older white man with a beer belly growls as he comes at the man, throwing a punch at him between the bars. The man exclaims as he hits the cement floor, exclaiming in pain. The older white man said to him, " Show the lady some respect, you fucking creep." He turned around, walking over to the sidebars next to my cell. He said, " It's okay, kid.. don't be scared". I walk closer but stay back where he can't reach me. I said, " Thank you.. but I'm not afraid". He smiled. " Tough one.. what's your name, kid?" I said, " Kim." He said, " I'm Robert, but you can call me Bobby." He smiled, walked over to the bed against the wall, and lay down. I can't stop thinking about that picture.. it breaks my heart so much... I'm so pissed I could scream.. why would Kyle and Terri do me like that? he's cheated on me with one of my best friends?? we are family now with Carly, and he pulls this?? I can't believe he and Terri. I try not to cry, but I feel the tears streaming down my face as I look down at my wedding ring. God.. today has been so bad. Two hours pass by, and Detective Bridges and a cop come walking down the hallway. She is so pissed. The cop unlocks the door and pulls it open. She said with an attitude, " Get out of here." I stared at her angrily as I walked out and down the hallway to a door. Detective Bridges uses a badge to open the door. It opens, and we walk into the office. As we walk by, I see her desk and snatch the picture off of it. She said an attitude, " Keep it. I have a copy". I see Mom standing behind the front desk in the waiting area. I ignore her as I walk by the front desk, open the wooden gate, and walk out to Mom. She saw my face and said, " Kim? What's wrong?" I said with a pissed-off look, " Take me home." Mom went to say something, and I said with a look, " NOW." I walk out the doors as she follows me across the parking lot to my car. She hands me the keys, and we walk up to the doors and open them. We got inside, and I got the car started and going. As I'm driving, I stare at the road. Mom said, " Kim, what's going on? Why are you so mad?" I pointed to the picture in the seat between us. She picks it up and gasps as she looks at it. She said, " This has to be fake, Kyle and Terri would never betray you like that". I scoffed and said, " Looks pretty real to me." Mom said, " He loves you and that baby more than anything.. and Terri has been married to Don for thirteen years, for Christ's sake! There has to be an explanation". I said, " There is one! They kissed, and I want to know why!" Mom said, " Kim.. you have to calm down!" I growled as I drove " What would you do?! If that was Todd kissing another woman?" Mom said " Kimberly!" I said angrily " You would be pissed too!" I drove all the way to my house as we went back and forth. I pulled up in the driveway, and the other cars were parked in front of the house. Kyle's work truck was parked in the driveway. I stop the car, shutting it off quickly. I exit the car, storming up to the house as Mom follows, begging me to calm down. I open the door, walk through the foyer, and into the living room. Kyle, Jason, Jane, Debby, Terri, Shana, and Jesse are standing there. Kyle said, " Babe, thank god,"... I exclaimed as I dashed up to Terri, punching her directly in the mouth. She exclaims in pain, stumbling back into the dining room table. Her mouth is pouring blood. Mom and Debby grab me, and I exclaim shove them off. I exclaim, coming at Terri and throwing another punch. She dodges it and then exclaims as she swings a punch, hitting me in the nose. I exclaim as I stumble back my eyes begin to water and my nose begins to bleed. She said, " What the fuck is your problem!?!?" I exclaimed in anger as I came at her, and she came at me. Jason runs up behind Terri, grabbing her from behind in a bear hug picking her up off the ground. I feel Kyle grab me from behind in one. I thrash in his arms as Terri thrashes in Jason's with her shoes off the floor. I break free and spin around, looking at Kyle. He said, " Kim!! what are you doing!?" I said, " I know about you two!!" Terri said, " What the hell are you talking about!??" I pulled the picture out of the pocket of my blazer, showing him then Terri. Kyle took the picture and said to me, " Babe, this is so fake! It's not real!" I said, " Looks pretty real to me!! why did you two kiss??!!" Terri said, " We didn't!!" I said " Bullshit!!" I exclaim as I break down crying. Kyle starts to hug me, and I back up. I said, " Don't..." Kyle said as tears filled his eyes, " Baby.. I love you so much.. I would never cheat on you". I said as I looked away from him, " I want you to leave.".. Kyle said, " Kim.. please, you gotta believe me". I said, " LEAVE!!" Jane was standing beside me. She said, " Kim! Calm down! Do you really think they would sleep together??" I said, " I don't want to talk about it anymore... Everyone get out!!" Jason said, " Give me the picture.. I'm gonna prove this isn't real". I hand it to him, and they leave, walking out of the house. A little while later, Renee brought Carly home, and I spent some time with her before going to bed and crying in my bedroom while Carly slept in her crib down the hallway from my bedroom.
