As Micky had warned, he departed quite early the next day. I noticed that Gloria was a morning person herself. The following Monday I woke up from my sleep and slugged down the staircase. Gloria was sitting in the kitchen at the bar drinking coffee while flipping through the pages of a book. She offered me a friendly greeting and I gave her the same.
Micky left his car should we need to go anywhere, because Gloria caught a flight into town. It was pointless of him to take his car anyway, as I'd gathered that he was going overseas. She offered to drive me to school, but I politefully declined reasoning that I wanted to walk that day. To be perfectly honest, it was more that I didn't want to be alone with her in a confined space, so I wouldn't have to deal with forced conversation.
I was walking in the hallway past Gillian's room when he purposefully caught my attention. He shuffled me into his classroom and shut the door behind him. I pulled out my headphones and gave him a questioning look.
"What's up Mr. Gillian?" I asked cautiously
"You'll be glad to hear that I got you out of trouble for the most part about what happened on Friday." Gillian said proudly.
"Mostly...?" I asked.
"You won't have ISS or anything, but you do have to serve an hour detention with me. Not my doing, but they wanted some kind of punishment, and since I was the one who brought it up, they asked me to do it." I felt a wave of relief come across my body.
"I think I can handle you." I said, and moments after I realized how it sounded and felt a hard blush come to my face. "Detention...I can handle detention." I added, making it worse, because then he realized what I was thinking because I'd corrected myself. An awkward look struck his face as he resisted the urge to laugh.
He ignored the unintentional innuendo and kept talking. "So when would be the most convienient time for you to serve it?"
I hesitated. "It doesn't really matter. I can do it today if you're not busy." I offered.
"No, today's perfect. Just meet me in my classroom after eighth period alright?" An unwanted wave of excitement fell over me at the thought of being with him for an uninterrupted hour. It's not that I had a crush on him, it was more that I simply enjoyed his presence.
"Will do." I smiled before walking back out into the hallway.
My excitement continuously built as I tried to pass the time through the school day. I couldn't very well fathom the fact that I was actually excited for detention. I secretly hoped that he wouldn't have any other detention kids to police today.
After a long and slow school day, I walked slightly less than quickly down the hallway to room 814. I walked in, and to my disappointment he wasn't in the room. I looked around, and saw no one else in there which relived me. I was isolated in the room with nothing but the screaming sound of my thoughts, complimented by the buzzing of the fluorescent lights.
I set down my bag on a desk and walked over to the window. I peered out, only to find a smooth sheet of white blanketing the ground. The roads were slightly dusted through, even though they were constantly clearing the roads.
I nearly jumped out of my skin when I heard a satisfied greeting directly behind me.
"Sorry, didn't mean to scare you." I turned around to find Gillian behind me giggling.
"It's alright." I replied.
"It's getting pretty bad out there isn't it?" He said, making conversation.
"Getting? It's been bad out for the past week." I walked over to the desk where I'd laid my bag and sat down.Gillian followed, moving over to his desk, which was coincidentally close to where I'd picked a desk.
