The front door opening made Sophie jump up from her couch. Sam was tired and Sophie was frantic. Patrick was coming over more often, sitting on the floor with his homework sprawled around him.
“Phiphi…”
She looked at him, eyebrows knitting together. Blake walked in behind Sam, making Sophie practically tackle him in a hug before smacking him.
“I deserve that…” Blake muttered.
She shook her head, tears filling her eyes. She wrapped her arms around his neck in a hug again and held him close. He had her worried sick.
“I’ve come to get my things…I’ve got an Uncle who wants to take me in…” Blake muttered.
Sophie shook her head before rushing to grab her notebook.
(We can work this out, we can make this work. Don’t go, Blake.)
“I’ve already made up my mind…I don’t belong here anymore.”
(Of course you do!)
“I don’t.”
(I love you Blake but not in the way you want me to. Somebody else has come along and I’m sorry about that but I’m not sorry at the same time because for the first time in a really long time, I’m happy. Don’t ruin that, please.)
“You’re selfish.”
Her eyes went wide.
“You’re selfish and you never put others before you. You’re always thinking of what would make you happy, what’s good for you. You never for once thought of anybody else and you were the same way in high school. I was surprised when you said you would take me in but with time to think, I knew why. You pity me and that’s all you’ve ever done despite how much I hate the pity. I don’t want your pity, I don’t want your tears or your smacks to my face, I don’t want you anymore. I love you, but I don’t want you anymore because you’re so self-absorbed and selfish that you don’t see anybody else but yourself. You don’t deserve a point of view if the only thing you see is you…” He said.
She shook her head, the tears falling now. She walked over to him and grabbed his shirt before pulling him down into a kiss. He was startled, to say the least and began moving his lips against hers. She pulled away and began writing.
(I hope you find what you’re looking for, Blake and that life is kind to you.)
She ripped the page out and handed it to him for him to keep before going outside. She leaned against the building and closed her eyes. A few moments later, he came out with suitcase in hand. She motioned for him to just go. She didn’t want to say goodbye, she wasn’t good at goodbye. He hugged her anyways as his Uncle pulled up to the apartment complex.
‘Goodbye’ she mouthed.
“Goodbye, Sophie…I love you.”
Sam came outside and held his sister as she bawled her eyes out. Blake was gone. He carried Sophie into the house before sitting down with her on his lap. She cried and cried until there were no more tears to shed. She eventually fell asleep and was carried back to her room.
“Why is she so torn up?”
“I don’t think that goodbye was your formal normal goodbye, Patrick….Blake has some problems and he’s never dealt with them.”
“Why didn’t she stop him?” Patrick asked.
“She tried…when she kissed him; she let him know that there was a home for him wherever she may be no matter what. He denied this fact and left. It was ultimately up to him and Sophie knows that. It’s just hard…she’s known him for the longest time and now he’s just gone.” Sam said.
