Chase

We reached the diner, were seated, and ordered our drinks within five minutes.

"So Trent, how are you adapting to this town?"

I had to break the silence. The awkward silence was too much. Hunter sat beside me, but I don't think that having Trent directly in front of her was a big improvement.

"Well, thank you. I even found my favorite place already."

"What would that be?" I asked, taking a sip of my orange juice.

"The frozen yogurt place a few blocks away." He said, while looking at Hunter.

I need to talk to Hunter, now.

"Glad to hear. I love that place. Our friend Monique's uncle owns it."

"He runs a good business." Trent stated before sipping his coffee.

"Would you excuse us? Need to run to the ladies room." I said while dragging Hunter out of the booth, and down the hall to the restroom.

Once we were in the restroom, I gave Hunter a hard look.

"You're going to start this? Right now?" She asked, looking up at me.

"What the hell was that comment he made about?" I eyed her suspiciously.

"Nothing." She looked away.

"Hunt!"

"Okay, okay. I have already met Trent. It was a spur of the moment kind of thing. I was right about to pay for my yogurt, and he came in, complimenting me, pays for my yogurt, and then leaves." She looked at me, a little out of breath from rushing he story out.

"Why didn't you tell me?" I said, slightly raising my voice.

"David." She stated giving me a look that said: you hypocrite!

"Fair enough."

A knock at the door told us we had to get back to our table.

"We'll talk later, missy." I stated while pushing her out of the restroom door.

We walked back to the booth, and found the two cousins sitting, quietly chatting.

We sat back down, earning smiles from the two men.

"Everything alright?" David asked, concern in his voice.

"Just peachy." I said, smiling back to him.

"So, what's good here?" Trent asked.

I nudged Hunter to respond, and got a little kick in the ankle for it.

"Everything, really. Their hash browns, and omelette combo is amazing." She said in a sort of rambling nature.

"I'll take your word for it." Trent stated, while closing the menu, never taking his eyes off of her.

She shyly smiled at him, cheeks tinged red.

"Do you know what you want?" I asked  David.

"I do, but it isn't on the menu." he winked at me.

Trent gave him a look, and I just smiled back to him.

Our waiter came by, and took our order, and hurried off to his next table.

"David, would you mind coming outside with me? I need a little air." I asked him, with an innocent voice.

"Sure." he said to me. "Be back in a sec." he said to Hunter and his cousin.
