Evi's POV
Well I'm sick. This is just great.
The girls are getting better, but still feel bad.
Us three have been on the couch watching Disney movies for the past two days.
I hear the key jingle in the door. It's only five thirty so it shouldn't be Jacob, he doesn't get home until six tonight.
I turn my head away from Cinderella to find Alyssa walking through the door.
"Hey, how are you feeling, we brought you and the girls some soup, if they'll eat it."
We?
Then following Alyssa, in walks Justin.
"I feel horrible, the girls are just sleeping it off I think. Hey Justin."
"Hey," he replies. I can tell he wants to make an effort and get to know his brother and nieces more.
"Nikki, Scarlett say hi to uncle Justin and Alyssa."
"Hi unca Justin and auntie Lyssa." The both say before turning their attention back to the movie.
Then I hear Jacob coming through the door.
"Hey, I'm home!" He calls. "Oh, hey Justin, Alyssa. What are ya'll doing here?"
"We were just coming by to see how Evi and the girls were doing. We were just leaving."
"No you aren't, you're not driving in that. It's pouring outside."
All of the sudden all of the iPhone's and iPads on the house go off. It scares the girls and they start crying.
"God Jacob turn that off." I say reaching for my phone, Justin and Alyssa grab theirs too.
Hurricane warning.
Just perfect.
"We are going to the basement. I'm not taking my chances Evi go down there and turn on the lights and stuff. I'll grab the supplies. Alyssa can you help me?" Jacob says.
"Sure."
I walk carefully down the stairs to the basement to turn on the lights. When we redid the basement after it burned the built the walls thicker, more like a storm shelter.
I come back up the stairs and take the girls back down.
Jacob was scrambling around getting blankets and pillows.
Alyssa was getting waters and food.
Justin was getting chargers, phones, flashlights, batteries, and diapers.
Then once were all down there Jacob locks the basement door.
"Don't they need us at the hospital?" Alyssa asks Jacob.
"I'm not taking my chances diving in that wind and rain."
She nods in agreement.
"What are we going to do now?"
"Jacob turn on some music." I say motioning to the record player.
He picks an old 60s record.
"Yeah I'll tell you something, I think you'll understand." Justin starts singing in a really, really good voice.
"Babe, I didn't know you could sing?" Alyssa says sounding surprised.
"When I tell you something," Jacob starts singing too.
"I wanna hold your hand, I wanna hold your hand, I wanna hold your hand." The brothers belt.
They both burst out into uncontrollable laughter.
"That was cute." Alyssa says kissing Justin.
It's so weird seeing them together. I guess I better get used to it.
Scarlett crawls into my lap and bear hugs me, closing her eyes. I think she still feels bad.
Nikki on the other hand is running around and playing with Alyssa and Justin.
"Is it just me or is it weird seeing them together?" Jacob asks me, low enough so only I could hear.
Justin had just pulled Alyssa onto his lap and was kissing her.
"It's very weird." I say back to him. "It's good that he's finally found somebody to love though."
"Yeah, I was going to tell you when I got home but they were here. Justin was asking me where I got your engagement ring made."
"No!" I whisper yell. "He's going to propose?"
"I guess."
"She'll say yes. She's so in love with him. I'm just surprised about Justin, he's never wanted to settle down and move back here."
"I know. I can't believe it either."
"What are ya'll whispering about over here?" Alyssa says walking across the room to where me and Jacob and Scarlett are sitting.
Nikki was sitting in Justin's lap, bouncing and giggling.
"Oh, nothing. How's it going with you and Justin?" I ask.
"I'll be going over there." Jacob says getting up and taking Scarlett too.
Alyssa sits down in front of me. "It's going great! I love him so much Evi, I've never felt this way for anyone before."
"That's really great Alyssa. In really happy for you."
"I've really fallen head over heels. Literally. He's so good to me. He treats me like a princess." She says a smile creeping up on her face.
"Do ya'll talk about the future and stuff?"
"Yeah, he's been mentioning stuff like kids and marriage, but only here recently."
"Do you think your ready for kids?"
"To be honest, I don't know. I know Justin really wants kids sometime in the future, but I just don't know if I'm responsible enough for that. I see you with your kids and think about how much I want one, but I'm not sure."
"I didn't think I ever wanted kids, but you'll know when it's the right person. In high school me and Jacob talked about our future all of the time. We joked about eloping right after graduation." I laugh at the crazy memory. "Do you see yourself marrying Justin?"
"Of course I do. I just feel like it's all happening too fast you know? I mean if we do get married I want to wait a little while before I have a baby."
"Yeah, I understand."
"Ugh, when do you think we can leave here?"
"I don't know ask Jacob I'm going to take a nap." I say pulling up my blanket and grab a pillow.
When I wake up Jacob is telling me we can leave.
I groggily rub my eyes and drag my way up the stairs.
The house seems to be intact. That's good.
We walk outside to see what happened
The trees are all knocked over. Thankfully not on the house, but the yard looks a mess.
Hopefully we got the worst of it. I wonder what the rest of the city looks like?
